Ghibli is a character in the 2023Disney/Pixar animated feature film Elemental. She is introduced as Lake Ripple's girlfriend from Element City School for the Arts.
Ghibli is a very open-minded water woman who did not hold any prejudice against other elements as she warmly greeted Ember Lumen during a dinner with the Ripples. Due to her relationship with Lake, the Ripple family treats Ghibli as one of their own, even though she isn't biologically related to them. And because of her good relationship with Lake's family members, Ghibli willingly participates in various activities with them such as eating dinner and playing games.
Physical appearance[]
Ghibli is a tall, slender water woman whose translucent body is of a turquoise color. She has blue eyes and has waves on the left side of her head that give the appearance of long wavy hair while the right side of her head has no hair, giving the impression of the right side of her head is shaved.
Ghibli's outfit consists a white turtleneck and dark blue shirt. She also wears a yellow and blue jacket that yellow buttons and puffy sleeves.
Role in the film[]
Wade encounters Ghibli and the rest of the Ripple family at Wade's apartment, where Wade introduces Ghibli to Ember, alongside Lake, which Wade describes Ghibli and Lake as students of Element City School for the Arts, just before Brook replies that she is an architect as the real artist is her brother Harold. Ghibli is later seen having dinner with the rest of the Ripples to which they find Alan's story about Wade being afraid of sponges as a child interesting.
After Alan accidentally breaks the pitcher he is using, Ember uses her fiery ability to fix the broken pitcher, impressing Ghibli and the rest of the Ripples. Later during the Crying Game where Wade tells Ember that the light inside her made him feel like that he wants her to be near him, Ghibli and the rest of the Ripples emotionally react to Ember and Wade's relationship. Ghibli does not appear again throughout the rest of the film.

The name Ghibli is an Italian noun that describes a hot desert wind. The noun was borrowed from Libyan Arabic name with a similar meaning.
The character Ghibli is named after Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki's animation studio in Koganei, Tokyo, Japan. Her being an art student is also a nod to this.
Maya Aoki Tuttle is not directly credited as the voice of Ghibli and is simply listed under additional voices. Nevertheless, she was confirmed to be the voice of Ghibli.
According to The Art of Elemental, Ghibli was originally going to be an air girl. This was most likely another nod to Studio Ghibli and their frequently used theme of air and wind based settings.
