The Giant Frogs are characters featured in the Jungle Cruise attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
They are a group of large frogs with red eyes similar to those of a red-eyed tree frog. These frogs inhabit the rainforest section representing the Amazon near a waterfall.
Development History[]
These frogs were created for the Walt Disney World version of Jungle Cruise at Magic Kingdom which first opened on October 1, 1971. The concept of the frog scene designed by the late Disney imagineer Marc Davis. In promotional materials for the attraction, the frogs were described as "big as Boston bulldogs" They were seen sitting on a solid rock watching visitors pass by. A year later, the frogs were removed at some date unknown in spring 1972 after Disney chariman Dick Nunis criticized the frogs for their designs.
After almost 50 years of absence in the attraction, two of the frogs (in a very similar form to the ones from their original incarnation) returned in October 27, 2021 as part of the 50th anniversary of the resort.[1]
Appearances[]
Jungle Cruise[]
The frogs would be seen in a section representing the Amazon River where they are seen watching visitors pass by them while sitting on a log.
Walt Disney World Railroad[]
A gag that involved the frogs and alligators (paralleling one of the original crocodile gags from Jungle Cruise by Marc Davis) was used in a section where guests pass through the Frontierland section. However, it was removed for unknown reasons.[2]
