The Girl Moth[1] is one of the main characters featured in the 1938 Silly Symphony short The Moth and the Flame.

Background[]

Personality[]

The Girl Moth is often shown flying around the Boy Moth, who shows a loving personality to her. In spite of the Girl Moth being the Boy Moth's interest, she is also shown to have a dislike of the Boy Moth ignoring her, trying to look for another interest who would fall in love with her, as she became attracted to the Flame attempting to seduce her. Later, she then reacted in fear when she realized the Flame's true actions, as he is only attempting to burn her, causing a series of obstacles to the Girl Moth, such as her getting caught on a spider web, leaving her no way to escape with the fire attacking her. However, when the Boy Moth and a group of other moths extinguished the fire, the Girl Moth even praised him for his heroic deeds.

Role in the short[]

The Girl Moth and the Boy Moth both arrive at the Ye Olde Costume Shoppe trying to look for clothing to feast on and as they enter, a swarm of other moths follow and start devouring the clothes inside the clothing shop. Later, the Boy Moth sees a hat for both he and the Girl Moth to snack on, much to the latter who is furious that that he ignored her to feast on the hat. However, the Flame approaches her and attempts to seduce her so that she can be his interest, which she realizes that the Flame is only trying to burn her. As the Flame attempts to kill her, the Moth finds herself trapped in a spider web, leaving her unable to escape. The Boy Moth noticed this as he attempted to save the Girl Moth who is in danger, so he gathers a large swarm of moths to help extinguish the fire to save the Girl Moth. With the Flame extinguished, the Boy Moth manages to save the Girl Moth from the spider web, just as the two fall in love with each other, just as the Girl Moth kisses him, praising him for his heroic deeds.
