Giza is a city in Egypt that serves as the setting for some scenes in the 2022 mystery film Death on the Nile, directed by Kenneth Branagh and based on the 1937 novel of the same name by Agatha Christie. It is known for its ancient monuments, especially the Giza pyramid complex, which includes the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Sphinx, and several smaller pyramids and tombs. The complex is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Memphis and its Necropolis".
Appearance[]
In the film, Hercule Poirot, played by Kenneth Branagh, and his friend Bouc, played by Tom Bateman, arrive in Giza by train and stay at the Old Cataract Hotel overlooking the pyramids. They are joined by several other guests who will later board the steamer S.S. Karnak for their Nile cruise. Among them is Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle, played by Gal Gadot, a wealthy heiress who has recently married Simon Doyle, played by Armie Hammer, the former fiancé of her childhood friend Jacqueline de Bellefort, played by Emma Mackey. Jacqueline follows them to Egypt and confronts them at the hotel, vowing to make their lives miserable. The film also shows some scenes of Poirot visiting the pyramids and the Sphinx with other characters, such as Rosalie Otterbourne, played by Letitia Wright, and Dr. Bessner, played by Russell Brand. The film uses CGI to recreate the historical appearance of the monuments without their modern damage and erosion.
