General Glozelle is a supporting character who appears in the 2008 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Background[]

Glozelle is a Telmarine Lord who serves as the general of the Telmarine Army. He is also shown to follow Miraz during his plot to take over Narnia in his plans to conquer the kingdom, supporting the usurper's tyranny across Narnia, especially when it comes to his duty in being king of the Telmarines. However, ever since he surrendered to the Narnians, Glozelle became one of the first Telmarines to leave for Earth after accepting the offer of living in peace with the Narnians after Aslan told him that he would have a good future, since he was the one to spoke first.

Role in the film[]

Glozelle is first seen approaching Miraz inside the Telmarine Castle, telling him that his son is born where he tells him that he was blessed for his desire to have a child just as he tells the general that he follows his orders. He later appears commanding a group of Telmarines to fire their arrows trying to keep a look out for Caspian, only to notice that he escaped with Dr. Cornelius, just before the soldiers fire their arrows on Caspian's bed. Just as Caspian escapes, Glozelle and the rest of the soldiers chase Caspian while trying to alert the Telmarine citizens that Queen Prunaprismia gave birth to a son. Caspian escapes into the forest to lose the Telmarine army.

The next day, Glozelle approaches Miraz who is consulting the council his plans to rescue Caspian and take revenge against the Narnians. He then approaches Sopespian where the latter tells him that what might happen to their fate if Miraz fails, which Glozelle warns him that the words he say could put the Telmarines at risk. Sopespian tells him that one should think first by choosing wisely just before discussing with Miraz about assembling the Telmarine army across the river by recruiting his men as they decide to invade the Fords of Beruna.

The next day at the Fords of Beruna, Miraz talks to Glozelle of how much the Narnians took, which he replies to the king that they took enough weapons and armor for two regiments just before Miraz reads a message engraved by Caspian on three back of the carriage which reads, "You were right to fear the woods", which must be linked to Caspian. He then asks Glozelle of how many soldiers he lost recently, which Glozelle claims that there were no casualties and that he never saw them. Miraz then asks Glozelle of how many Telmarines were killed during the Narnian attack, which Glozelle claims that there were three casualties. As Miraz leaves off via horse, Glozelle engages in a private conversation with his men. During the raid of Miraz's castle, Glozelle took part in defending Miraz from Tyrus, a satyr who is part of the Old Narnian army. Glozelle fired his arrow at Tyrus, causing him to fall to his death as well as killing the satyr.

The next day, Glozelle approached Miraz who is crowned as the king of his castle just as the Lords all bow to their ruler, followed by the Telmarines chanting, "Long live the king" just as the crowd cheers for his coronation. As the Telmarines prepare to fight at Beruna, Miraz approaches Glozelle and tells him that the Narnians are too noble for this just before he attends the meeting of Edmund giving out a proposal that one should challenge Miraz in a fight to the death within a battlefield and the reward should be total surrender, which Miraz denies, only for Glozelle to tell him that he would never refuse but have fight for the courage of the new king. During the duel between Peter and Miraz, Glozelle was present watching the duel to which Sopespian killed Miraz by stabbing him with an arrow. Just as Sopespian blames the Narnians for murdering Miraz, Glozelle leads the Telmarine army to charge against the Narnians in a violent battle just as the Narnians and Telmarines clash violently across Beruna.

After the war ended, Glozelle is seen amongst the Telmarines attending the coronation of Caspian. During the coronation, Glozelle and Prunaprismia accept the offer of living in peace with the Narnians. Glozelle approaches Aslan who tells him that his future shall be good as he spoke first just before Glozelle was the first to leave Narnia.

Differences from source material[]

  • In the original source material, Glozelle is nobility just like Sopespian and the Seven Lords. In the film, he is labeled as a general in Miraz's army, being of lower station than Sopespian.
  • It was Glozelle who killed Miraz in the book rather Sopespian in the film.
  • Glozelle's role is much larger in the film, unlike in the original book and the 1989 BBC miniseries adaptation of Prince Caspian, where he does not appear until the end of the story.
