Go to Sleep is a deleted song from the 1959 Disney animated film, Sleeping Beauty.
Background[]
It was originally going to be sung during the part where Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather put the people in King Stefan's castle to sleep with the song itself sung by an offscreen chorus, but for the final cut, the song was deleted and was replaced by the titular song "Sleeping Beauty".
Despite being cut, the song was included on Disc 2 on the DVD and Blu-ray discs in the 2008 Platinum Edition of Sleeping Beauty. In the deleted scene, it uses footage from the final version of the film where the titular "Sleeping Beauty" song plays, albeit using the song "Go to Sleep" instead.
Lyrics[]
Go to sleep
The twilight's softly falling
Rest ye well
Beneath the evening star
Troubled hearts find repose
'Neath the drowsy spell of night
Cares of day, drift away
As the sun sinks out of sight
Go to sleep (Go to sleep)
Rest ye well
Go to sleep (Go to sleep)
Go to sleep
(harmonizing)
Rest ye well
Go to sleep
Trivia[]
- This cut song's melody can be heard in the final film, in the scene when Flora, Fauna and Merryweather take Princess Aurora back to her castle.
- The melody itself is based on the "Candide Fairy" theme from Tchaikovsky's ballet score.
