"Good as Gold" is a song from "A Boy's Best Friend is His Fish," an installment of the Playhouse Disney series, Stanley. In the story, Stanley is planning to get a special surprise for his best friend and pet fish, Dennis. Dennis, however, is worried that Stanley is planning to replace him with a new fish that has more "pizazz," so he performs this song about how great things have been with Stanley and how he's going to miss him. A group of singing starfish provide backing vocals, and Dennis channels the appearance and style of Elton John as he is shown playing the song on the piano. The song is track 23 on the album Playhouse Disney 2. The song's lyrics were written by Joe Carroll and Peter Thom.
Lyrics[]
Stanley, you've made this fish feel just like family
Your friendship's good as gold
The good times we had
They made me glad
They made me a happy soul
It was fun when we'd look
In The Big Book
But now I need a brand-new bowl
Oh, Stanley, ya've made this fish feel just like family
Your friendship's good as gold
I'm gonna miss you, Stanley.
When you walked through that door
Way back at the pet store
That was my lucky day
But stiff upper lip
And on with the trip
It's time to hit the highway
Oh yeah, Stanley, you've always treated me so grandly
Now it's time for me to go
Whoa, Stanley, you made this fish feel just like family
Your friendship's good as gold.
