Goofy and Wilbur is an animated cartoon that was released on March 17, 1939. It was notably Goofy's first solo cartoon.
Summary[]
Goofy enlists the help of his friend, Wilbur, a grasshopper, in a fishing expedition, but then has second thoughts when he realizes that his friend might actually get eaten by a fish.
Characters[]
- Goofy (voiced by Jack Bailey)
- Wilbur
- Fishes
- Frog
- Stork
Note[]
- Although the original theatrical poster states the cartoon as "A 'Mickey Mouse'", it was originally released as a Goofy cartoon, and the first in his own series, which uses the same yellow sunburst background as the Mickey Mouse series.
- The opening card for the Goofy cartoons in Mickey Mouse Works is loosely based on the "Goofy" opening card from this short, albeit with a red background and Goofy's hat recolored green.
- This is also the only Goofy short to be made in the 1930s.
- When Goofy briefly removes his gloves, his hands are flesh-colored like his lower face instead of black like the rest of his body.
- In 1989, this short was paired with the Australian theatrical release of Turner & Hooch.
