Goosebumps is an American Disney+ and Hulu original series, based on the books of the same name by R.L. Stine. The first season premiered on October 13, 2023. The second season, subtitled The Vanishing, premieres January 10, 2025.

Synopsis

Season one follows a group of five high schoolers who unleash supernatural forces upon their town and must all work together – thanks to and in spite of their friendships, rivalries, and pasts with each other – in order to save it, learning much about their own parents' teenage secrets in the process.

Season two, subtitled The Vanishing, follows teenage siblings who discover a threat stirring, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.

Production

On February 4, 2022, Variety reported that a new Goosebumps TV series was in the works at Disney+.

Filming began on October 18, 2022, and it is scheduled to wrap on March 31, 2023.

On January 27, 2023, Variety reported the entirety of the cast of the series.

On February 10, 2024, the series was renewed for a second season with the intent to turn it into a seasonal anthology series.

On March 21, 2024, Deadline reported the main cast for season two.

• This marks the first series to simultaneously premiere on both Disney+ and Hulu.
• This is the second Goosebumps TV show since the original nineties TV show.
• This also marks the first Sony Pictures Television series to be distributed by Disney since Hotel Transylvania: The Series as that show aired on Disney Channel on June 25, 2017.
• Each season loosely adapts a select number of books into one continuous story.
  • Season one adapts, Night of the Living Dummy, Say Cheese and Die!, The Haunted Mask, Go Eat Worms!, The Cuckoo Clock of Doom, Please Don't Feed the Vampire!, and Night of the Living Dummy II. While the titles You Can't Scare Me and Horrorland are used, neither is truly adapted.
  • Season two adapts, Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door, and Welcome to Camp Nightmare.

Tie-in book

On May 21, 2024, it was announced that a tie-in novel titled Goosebumps: The Haunting Returns is set to be released later that year on October 1. The novel, written by Kate Howard, acts as a resolution to season one's story, due to the series changing to an anthology format.
