Goosetave Gander, is Gladstone Gander's father, and the husband of Daphne Duck. He was originally the husband of Matilda McDuck, and Gladstone's adoptive father.
He was first created in the early 1950's, by Carl Barks when designing the Duck Family tree, in this tree, Gladstone was the son of Luke the Goose and Daphne Duck, and after their deaths, because they "overate at a free-lunch picnic", Gladstone, was adopted by Scrooge's sister Matilda McDuck and her husband Goosetave, or Goosetail Gander.
In 1992, Carl Barks made a second Duck family tree, which removed Luke the Goose as Gladstone's father, and Daphne now "wed a Gander". [1] When Don Rosa created his famous Duck family tree, he depicted Goosetave as Gladstone's father, and Daphne's husband, his appearance was based off of Mark Worden's design of Goosetave.[2]
In Don Rosa's family tree notes, he wrote that Gladstone's 'distant relative', Susiebelle Swan, was Goosetave's grandmother's unmarried sister. Fanny the Goose's maiden name in this tree was Gander, but was later changed to Coot.[3]
Goosetave appears in 'Discipline', a Dutch story from 2021, Goosetave, visits Duckburg with a special mission. He doesn't want to visit his son because he thinks that Gladstone is too busy with work and he is very proud of that. Donald discovers that and convinces him to pay Gladstone with a visit after all. When Goosetave discovers that Gladstone doesn't lead the life he thought, he decides to discipline him.[4]
