The Grand Pangolin Arms is a location from the 2016 Disney animated feature film Zootopia.
Background[]
The Grand Pangolin Arms is an apartment complex located within the city of Zootopia where Judy Hopps moved from her birth home Bunnyburrow to the city of Zootopia. Its owner is Dharma Armadillo who serves as the landlady of the apartment. The room that Judy enters is a small single room shown in a rather dirty condition as well as a shelf, a closet, a narrow window, alongside a mirror, a microwave, and a desk lamp. It is never known if other residents live in rooms that are larger. It is also never specified on what floor Judy is at in her room.
Role in the film[]
When Judy Hopps moves from Bunnyburrow to the Grand Pangolin Arms, she encounters a landlady who introduces Judy to her room, telling her not to lose her key. All of a sudden, two nearby antelopes, Bucky and Pronk Oryx-Antlerson pass by, telling Judy to never expect them to apologize for their argument. Judy then notices the room she is staying is a small room in a dirty condition, as well as a rickety bed and two next-door neighbors. Judy becomes comfortable in staying in this room, unaware of Bucky and Pronk arguing and yelling at each other. The next day, Judy wakes up and gets ready for her first day at work for her job at the ZPD.
After Judy returns to her room after a hard work in doing her parking duty, she feels very depressed that she wants to be a real cop after getting negative criticism from angry pedestrians for being a poor "meter maid". She attempts to cheer herself up in listening to radio, but the radio plays very depressing music, so she turns it off. Judy then attempts to cook a carrot dinner from a "Carrots for One" package but all that came out was one small carrot, due to the fact that she over cooked the carrot. Suddenly, Judy goes into a conversation with her parents Bonnie and Stu via phone to know how her day was going at the big city and when Judy gets ready for another day, she tries to assure that the next day would be better, but Bucky and Pronk fear that the next day would be worse. The apartment is not seen again afterwards.
Trivia[]
- The lines where Bucky and Pronk Oryx-Antlerson are heard arguing and yelling at each other to shut up while in their room is a possible homage to the Rams from Brother Bear. However, unlike the rams who are heard arguing onscreen physically, Bucky and Pronk are heard offscreen arguing and yelling at each other to shut up.
- Its name is a reference to the pangolin, the only mammal that has scales - although no actual pangolins have physically appeared in the Zootopia franchise yet.
- One of the pictures seen in Judy's room is a picture of a bear who resembles Bongo from the titular segment featured in Fun and Fancy Free.
