Grandmother is a character in the Disney Parks attraction Carousel of Progress.

Development History[]
The Carousel of Progress (or Progressland as it was originally called) was created for a sponsorship from General Electric to be featured in the 1964 New York World's Fair where Grandmother was featured throughout the attraction which in turn became a success. The Carousel of Progress would later be integrated in Tomorrowland at Disneyland in the Carousel Theatre for the New Tomorrowland integrations of 1967. In 1975, it was moved to Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World at the behest of ride sponsors, General Electric. Over the years as new scripts, scenes and integrations have been implemented into it, Grandmother has changed voice-actors multiple times.

Carousel of Progress[]
Grandmother appears in every scene throughout the Carousel of Progress attraction helping demonstrate the latest technology of each era. Throughout acts of the attraction, Grandmother was seen using the latest technology in the different and interacting with her family in settings centered around acts living in different eras of America and highlighting the progress in technology which came with each one. Also during the 1960's in act four, Grandmother and Grandfather are not seen, with Sarah stating that they were sent to a retirement home.
Trivia[]
- There is a replica of the Grandmother animatronic used for a ghost of an old lady in Walt Disney's The Haunted Mansion. The Carousel of Progress pre-dated the Haunted Mansion's opening in Disneyland but in Walt Disney World the Haunted Mansion was built and opened before Carousel of Progress.
- Sometimes the character of the old lady from the Haunted Mansion is identified as being the ghost of the Grandmother from Carousel of Progress.
