Gravesfield is Luz's hometown in the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House. It is a fictional town located in the Human Realm of Connecticut, United States.

Background[]

Gravesfield was founded in 1635, and was a peaceful settlement until tragedy struck. Two brothers, Caleb and Philip Wittebane, were lured into the Demon Realm by a witch named Evelyn, never to be seen again.

Long before the start of the series, Eda used the Portal as a means of escape, ending up in Gravesfield and terrorizing the locals for years under her alias name "Marylin". She also went around collecting human stuff and selling them at the market back home. Years later, Luz Noceda left Gravesfield when she followed Owlbert into an abandoned house that led to the Boiling Isles.

Places of interest[]

  • Town Square: It features a statue of two historical figures, widely considered to be a representation of the Wittebane brothers. It is located across the street from Robin's Roast Café and the Gravesfield Historical Society museum.
  • Robin's Roast Café: A café located in downtown Gravesfield across the street from the town square and the Gravesfield Historical Society museum. Eda was banned from this establishment after she tried to pay for a latte with a live raccoon and then magically animated various pastries to attack the other patrons and staff in order to facilitate her getaway.
  • Noceda residence: The home of Luz and Camila Noceda. It is located in a neighborhood at the edge of the woods. Luz's family moved to this house after her father was admitted to the local hospital, and the family remained their after his passing. By the end of "Watching and Dreaming", the Nocedas are packing Luz's possessions at least, presumably for her move to Eda's University of Wild Magic. (Whether they were planning to move out of that residence is unclear.)
  • Old House: An old, dilapidated house found in the forest near the Noceda residence. It is the location of the portal connecting the Human and Demon Realms. During their time in the Human Realm, Luz's witch friends gave the old house some crude remodeling and made it their hideaway, even painting Hooty's face on the front door. By the end of "Watching and Dreaming", the house is renovated and under ownership of the Nocedas. The door is now a portal to the Boiling Isles created by the Collector.
  • Gravesfield Historical Society: The town's local museum that also acted as the hideout for its prior curator, Jacob Hopkins. It is located across the street from Robin's Roast Café and the town square. By "Thanks to Them", Jacob had been fired after making questionable edits to the exhibits and was replaced by Masha.
  • Gravesfield Graveyard: A cemetery where Luz's late father is buried.
  • Old Gravesfield: The oldest section of Gravesfield, dating back to at least the early 17th century, now abandoned. This was the area where the young Philip and Caleb Wittebane lived. Among the ruins are an abandoned graveyard that is partially flooded and where a small vile of Titan's blood was buried.
  • Gravesfield High: The town's local high school where Luz attends and later graduates.

Trivia[]

  • Gravesfield's historical association with witches from the Demon Realm may be based on the real-life Connecticut witch trials of 1647 to 1663 that started the colonial New England witch-hunts, including the later infamous Salem witch trials of 1692 to 1693.
  • Connecticut is the birthplace of the series' creator, Dana Terrace.
  • The Gravesfield Town Seal is identical to the sigil used by Hunter when he was the Golden Guard.
