After a fire broke out in the apartment above the restaurant Herman's Hearty Slice, Grills was one of the firefighters who was tasked with putting out the fire. While inside, Grills found a costume that he could use for the LARPing and stole it and was unaware of the fact that it belonged to Ronin, a masked figure who terrorized organized crime after the Snap. After finding it, Grills recorded a video showcasing himself in the costume along with his foam sword which was posted to the NYC LARPers' social media page, which Hawkeye saw.

The next day Grills attended an NYC LARPers session in his new costume. Hawkeye, identifying his costume as Ronin's, began quickly moving past other the LARPers to Grills. Hawkeye demanded the suit back, though Grills insisted that he kill Hawkeye in the roleplay. Reluctantly, Hawkeye agreed, and after being “defeated” by Grills, he handed Hawkeye the suit without resistance.

A few days later, Grills, along with his fellow LARPer comrades, were practicing fighting in Central Park when they were approached by Kate Bishop, who was looking for a police officer who would help her retrieve Hawkeye's trick arrows from the police station. An officer named Wendy Conrad agreed to help her in return for something, but Grills interrupted and said she would have to give something in return for all of them.

Kate then went to Grills's apartment where they would make out the details of their trade. Grills offered the idea that in return for them helping retrieve Hawkeye's trick arrows, Hawkeye and Kate would supply them with materials to make new costumes, which she and Hawkeye agreed to.

Grills also agreed to take care of Lucky, Kate's dog, while they were away investigating the Tracksuit Mafia. After a major fight, Kate brought Hawkeye over to Grills's apartment for treatment and was surprised by how banged up Hawkeye was. After helping him recover, Grills also agreed to take care of Lucky for a few more days while Kate and Hawkeye brought a close to the Tracksuit Mafia situation.

Grills, along with his fellow LARPers, agreed to pose as waiters to look out for any members of the Tracksuit Mafia and Yelena Belova, after finding out about Kazi Kazimierczak's plot to assassinate Kate's mother, Eleanor, and Yelena being hired to assassinate Hawkeye. After Kazi began firing at the building, Grills, along with the other LARPers began to direct people out of the building to safety, but seeing as they were being ignored, they changed into their LARPing costumes, which ended up getting the attention of people.

After Hawkeye and Kate were able to defeat the Tracksuit Mafia, they were questioned by NYPD officers, and Grills, along with the other LARPers, told them they were helping Hawkeye in his efforts.

Trivia[]
