"Groot’s First Steps" is the series premiere of the Disney+ animated shorts I Am Groot and was released on August 10, 2022, along with the rest of the season. It was written and directed by Kirsten Lepore.
Baby Groot discovers he’s not the only plant being pampered aboard his space ship. A happy accident convinces Groot to try taking his first steps out of his pot—only to learn you have to walk before you can run.
Plot[]
A very thin Groot grows within his pot, until he eventually reaches his toddler stage. As he gets used to his place on the desk, two drones immediately remove him and put a bonsai tree in his place. Upset over getting moved, Groot uses his powers to try and pull the bonsai down to no avail. He eventually stretches up and tries to "fight" the bonsai, but he only succeeds in snapping one of its branches off and getting tangled within its thick green sap. Both Groot and the bonsai fall off the desk and their pots shatter. As Groot gets up, he realizes that he has feet and is excited over his new development. Later, Groot is sitting and eating with the bonsai in a repaired pot. As a drone comes to try and separate them, Groot knocks it away.
