This article is about the character from King Arthur. For the version from Once Upon a Time, see Guinevere.

Guinevere is a supporting character of the 2004 Touchstone Pictures film King Arthur, which sought to tell a historically accurate version of the legend of Arthur and his knights.

Background[]

Personality[]

Guinevere, upon first glance, comes off as a quiet, defenseless, and possibly uneducated young woman. However, this could not be further from the truth. She is shown to be wise beyond her years and full of worldly knowledge that comes in handy in times of duress. She has a habit of studying people and trying to understand what makes them tick. She is also shown to be a very capable of woman who is willing to put herself out on the line to protect others. Guinevere is also willing to give into earthly pleasures and has great judgement in Arthur, whom she marries.

Trivia[]

  • Despite being King Arthur's love interest, Keira Knightly is actually 21 years Clive Owen's junior. Knightly was 19, while Owen was 40 when the movie came out.
  • In usual legends, Guinevere is typically portrayed as either a morally dubious character, or even a very noble woman of Roman descent. She is sometimes portrayed as being childless with Arthur, save for a couple of supernatural incidents, and having sinister family members such as an evil twin. Later legends depict her having an adulterous affair with Lancelot, an act that indirectly leads to Arthur's downfall, though this is not always the case.
