Gunner is a character who appears in the 2011 Disney live-action film, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. He is an undead crewman who serves as one of Blackbeard's undead officers in a plan to seek the Fountain of Youth.
Background[]
As his name implies, Gunner serves as one of the crewmen of the infamous pirate Edward Teach aka "Blackbeard". Like the rest of the undead pirates in Blackbeard's crew, Gunner is a zombie working alongside the Queen Anne's Revenge under command of Blackbeard. After Blackbeard's death, Gunner ultimately dies with the rest of the zombified pirates.

Onboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, Gunner is first seen using a whip on Scrum who is scrubbing the deck with Jack Sparrow to which Scrum explains to Jack that Gunner has been zombified by Blackbeard's dark magic, just like all the other officers in Blackbeard's crew. As Jack and Scrum are discussing about Philip Swift who is tied up on a mast, Gunner orders the crew to get back to work. During mutiny on the Revenge, Gunner fought against Jack Sparrow to which the latter trips him over and starts running away from him the undead crewman to which the battle pauses when Blackbeard shows up just as Gunner and the crew members gaze upon Blackbeard. Gunner later eyes on the ship's Cook dangling above to which the Cook is suddenly transformed into one of the undead crewmen via Greek fire.
Arriving at Whitecap Bay, Gunner and the rest of the undead crewmen stop by to capture a mermaid just as Gunner commands the human crew to attract a mermaid for the crew to catch to which the crew of the Revenge were able to capture one named "Syrena" with help from Philip Swift to bring for the ritual. Gunner and the rest of the undead crewmen travel across a jungle following Blackbeard to the Fountain of Youth with Syrena being carried on a glass coffin, present alongside the crew of the Revenge and he and the rest of the crew notice Jack jumping off a cliff in a plan to risk himself to survive after Quartermaster threw the voodoo doll of Jack himself.
Gunner is later present with the other crewmen taking part in a plan to get a mermaid's tear for the ritual at the Fountain to which Scrum manages to grab one using a vial to help prepare for the ritual. The next day, Gunner and the rest of the zombies travel towards a cavern leading to the Fountain. Furthermore, Gunner participates during battle at the Fountain of Youth fighting against Barbossa and his crewmen as the undead crewmen fight at the Fountain. The battle pauses when the Spaniard and his army arrive at the Fountain in a plan to destroy this place just as Gunner and Quartermaster notice what the Spaniard's men are doing to which the two attack some of the soldiers to which a rocky tower behind them crushes the two zombies. After Blackbeard's death, Gunner and the rest of the zombies all die.
