Harry Morgan

Harry Morgan was an American actor, director, and writer, whose television and film career spanned six decades. He appeared in multiple Disney films throughout the 1970s.

Morgan was born Harry Bratsberg in Detroit and graduated from Muskegon High School in 1933, where he achieved distinction as a statewide debating champion. He originally aspired to a J.D. degree, but began acting while a junior at the University of Chicago in 1935. In 1937, joining the Group Theatre in New York City formed by Harold Clurman, Cheryl Crawford, and Lee Strasberg in 1931. He appeared in the original production of the Clifford Odets play Golden Boy, followed by a host of successful Broadway roles alongside other Group members, such as Lee J. Cobb, Elia Kazan, John Garfield, Sanford Meisner, and Karl Malden.

Morgan's major television roles included Pete Porter in both December Bride (1954–1959) and Pete and Gladys (1960–1962), Officer Bill Gannon in Dragnet (1967–1970), Amos Coogan in Hec Ramsey (1972–1974), and his starring role as Colonel Sherman T. Potter in M*A*S*H (1975–1983) and AfterMASH (1983–1984). Morgan also appeared in more than 100 films, such as To the Shores of Tripoli, The Glenn Miller Story, The Gangster, The Big Clock, Dark City, Appointment with Danger, High Noon, Torch Song, Bend of the River, Thunder Bay, The Far Country, Strategic Air Command, Inherit the Wind, Cimarron, How the West Was Won, Frankie and Johnny, The Flim-Flam Man, Support Your Local Sheriff!, Support Your Local Gunfighter!, and the 1987 film adaptation of Dragnet, where he reprised his former role.
