Harvey Weinstein is an American actor, producer, director, comedian, and businessman. He is best known for being the founder of The Weinstein Company which used to own Miramax and Dimension Films. He also produced the movie Gangs of New York and played Sam Rizzo in An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn. In October 2017, The New York Times released an article stating that over 60 women in the film industry had accused Weinstein of sexual harassment, assault, and rape, over a period of 30 years. Shortly after, he was dismissed from The Weinstein Company, expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and other professional associations, and disappeared from public view.
