The Hat Thief Pirate is a character from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
This individual was a pirate during the early half of the 18th century. He served under Captain Hector Barbossa aboard The Wicked Wench. During the Pirate Captain's (later Hector Barbossa) attack on Isla Tesoro, this pirate looted the town of Puerto Dorado and grabbed numerous chests and expensive hats which he attempted to drunkenly balance onto a dinghy as his comrades burned the city. The pirate's further fate is unknown, though it is likely he was cursed along with the Wicked Wench's crew.
Development[]
The Hat Thief Pirate is one of the characters created for the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction which first opened at Disneyland in 1967. He was displayed in the Isla Tesoro scene with pirates burning the town while singing "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)".
Due to the success of the attraction at Disneyland, the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction was later constructed at Magic Kingdom, Tokyo Disneyland, and Disneyland Paris, still featuring the Hat Thief Pirate in it.
