The Hazelnutians are the residents of the fictional town of Hazelnut, as featured in the series Pepper Ann. They are often featured in either recurring, if not major roles, but most often serve as background incidentals for Pepper Ann and other characters to interact with.

Members[]

Notable Civilians[]

Emmit Swink (voiced by Max Casella and Jeff Bennett) is the ill-tempered Gen X waiter for the "Greezy N'Cheezy". He is also shown working at Crunch Pod Arcade, as an usher in the Hazelnut Mall's Movie Theatre, and as a waiter at Red Snapper.
He has also been credited as Emit and Emmett in later episodes.

Margot LeSandre (voiced by Kathy Najimy) is the uppity owner of the clothing store "Veronica's Treasures" and is the mother to Sean LeSandre. She often serves as a foil to Lydia Pearson and Janie Diggity due to a longstanding rivalry.
Margot is shown to be deaf in one ear, which was likely passed down to her son.

Mitch (voiced by Jeff Bennett) is the owner of the discount clothing store "It's You!", in which Lydia has worked at for seven years. He has a tendency of making bad judgement calls, and carries a pretentious attitude. Following the events of "Single Unemployed Mother", he and Lydia become business partners, with Lydia owning a clothing kiosk bordering "It's You!".

Sherie Spleen (voiced by April Winchell), later referred to as Sherrie Spleen and Sherri Spleen, is the anchorwoman for Hazelnut's Channel 96 News, and the host for the talk show "That's Entertaining!".

The Son of the Soil (voiced by Billy West and Jeff Bennett) is a farmer that owns a swan petting zoo. His three-year streak of no incidents was brought to an end following an incident with Nicky Little. He has also been shown to be a janitor.

Children and Teens[]

Alf (voiced by Will Ferrell), also nicknamed the A.V. Geek, is a member of the H-Nut Audiovisual Klub, along with a few other classmates. He is also the school's top chess player in the Hazelnut Middle School chess club. He is implied to be a Trekkie. Alf is shown to be a sore loser, and rather obsessive, placing all of his self-worth unto chess, and being wary of proactive activities.

Alf once met his match after Pepper Ann Pearson beat him in a game of chess. Dumbfounded by Pepper Ann beating him at chess (four times over) without even trying, he makes it his mission to win against her and regain his self-confidence. After Pepper Ann lambasts him for being so obsessive after following her for days, Alf realizes that there's more to life than chess and becomes more proactive.

The JavaNutt Guy (voiced by Jeff Bennett) is a boy who works at the "JavaNutt", a coffee shop which Pepper Ann often visits, and where Nicky Little often performs. He attended Dieter Liederhosen's 13th birthday party, in which he and Nicky kissed during a game of Spin the Bottle. On one occasion, he found himself a victim to Effie Shrugg.
Outside of his job at the JavaNutt, he is seen attending Hazelnut Middle School and is a part of the school's swim team.

Sean LeSandre (voiced by Pamela Adlon), nicknamed Shouty Kid in credits, is a loud-mouthed boy who is implied to be slightly deaf. He is Margot LeSandre's son, and is friends with Moose Pearson. He was responsible for a campaign to get a statue of Patrick Swayze erected to Lupkin Park, which earned him slight ire from Moose. He and Moose also started dating, which indirectly saw the end to a feud between Margot, Lydia, and Janie.
Sean is generally shown to be a nice kid, but he has his mean moments. He has aspirations of becoming a male nurse (despite being grossed out by, and prior to that, being a Chef, even owning a Suzy Bake Oven.

Shouty Kid (voiced by Pamela Adlon), named Sean, is a loud-mouthed boy who is friends with Moose. He seems to be an erroneous stand-in for Sean LeSandre in certain episodes.

Miscellaneous[]

The Businessman (typically voiced by Jeff Bennett) is a recurring face in the show. He is implied to be the husband of Melba. He is shown to have a hyper-fixation on croquet, and a distaste for being pressured by left wing activism.

Debbie (voiced by Kath Soucie) is the owner of the "Over the Nut Dry Cleaners", and an employee at "Veronica's Treasures". For unknown reasons, she doesn't believe in clocks, so she instead relies on a visit from officer JoJo Diggity before she can open her store.

Gladys is a middle-aged woman who is most often seen jogging. She is friends with Myrna, whom both are Baggy Bean Buddies collectors, and a regular shopper of Lydia's. As seen in an episode of Lafftown USA, her husband is the shop clerk. In some episodes, she is shown to be a librarian.

Jorge (voiced by Jeff Bennett and Billy West) is a Hot Dog Vendor that can be seen serving sporting events or simply serving on the streets of Hazelnut. He is notably shown to have a distaste for Loco Yono.

Loco Yono (voiced by April Winchell) is an Asian-American author who is made to parallel the real-life artist Yoko Ono, down to conflicts from their spouse John. Nicky Little was shown to be a fan of her work, as she recounted assisting her during a book signing at the Novel Nook. She was an unfortunate witness to Milo Kamalani's chalk art, which was seemingly so horrendous, she was driven to tears.
Jorge, the Hot Dog Vendor, once jokingly suggested having Yono's likeness be used as a statue in response to hearing Moose's campaign to get one of Evel Knievel up in Lupkin Park.

Melba is a Hazelnutian woman who is often seen in minor roles. She is implied to be dating the Businessman, although she is shown to live with Roy next door to him. She is shown to be a regular shopper and friend of Lydia's, waiting in line for days in anticipation for her comedy routine. She is also implied to have a daughter.
In "The Telltale Fuzzy", she is nicknamed "Soda Can Woman" after a gag in which Pepper Ann gives her back her empty can, hoping to save her money with recycling; instead, the can ends up home to a bee, which causes her to scream in horror. Regardless, she shows sympathy for her after Pepper Ann reveals herself to be a "fraud".

Myrna is a woman often seen roaming the streets of Hazelnut. She once tried to help Pepper Ann find her way home, albeit condescendingly. She is a member of The Environ-Mentals, a regular shopper of "It's You!" and friend of Lydia's, and a Baggy Bean Buddies collector, along with her friend Gladys.

The Shop Clerk (typically voiced by Jeff Bennett) is a man who is typically seen running storefronts or stands around Hazelnut. He has also been shown to be a whale trainer in the past, and is a member of the Environ-Mentals. In "The Way They Were," he is implied to be French (and is very fluent with the language), and gets into an argument with Nicky Little from her talking over a subtitled French movie. In most episodes, he instead speaks with an Italian accent.
He is also the husband of Gladys, whom he once pranked by staging a funeral for an episode of Lafftown USA. On one occasion, he, along with Gladys, and fellow Hazelnutians Myrna, Lydia, Piper, and others were brought in for jury duty. The two are often seen together during special events.
