Helen is a character from the 2020 Disney+ original film The One and Only Ivan.
Background[]
Helen is Mack's ex-wife. During her lifetime, she lived with her husband throughout her happy life and adopted Ivan when he was a baby. Throughout her life, she and her husband would take Ivan to a restaurant, a baseball game, a movie theater, or even a playground. In spite of that, she also dislikes Ivan making a mess around her house and when Ivan started growing older, he continued his animalistic behavior in causing a mess in the house and got so upset.
Role in the film[]
Helen only appears throughout a flashback sequence when Ivan tells a story to Ruby. Throughout the flashback, Helen is seen taking care of Ivan when he was a baby gorilla along with Mack where Ivan lived in a nice house. Throughout Ivan's life, Helen allowed him to sleep with her in bed, take her to restaurants, baseball games, movie theaters, and even playgrounds. However, when Ivan got older, he started causing a mess in her family's house just as Ivan continues making a mess around the house such as spreading cake on the wall, ruining the flowers, or even ripping the furniture. She then became upset of Ivan's behavior and then left Mack just as she never came back. Mack then found a new place for Ivan to live where he continued to be part of a circus throughout his life.
It is unknown of what happened to her afterwards, even after Ivan was released into Zoo Atlanta, due to the fact that she was not seen again throughout the rest of the film.

- Helen's name was not mentioned in the film, unlike in the book where her name was mentioned. Her name was only seen in the film's credits.
- The movie which Helen, Mack, and Ivan were watching during Ivan's childhood is a clip from the 1973 film Robin Hood.
