Helen Hayes MacArthur was an American actress, who had many Disney roles, such as a tourist in Third Man on the Mountain, Mrs. Steinmetz in Herbie Rides Again, Hettie in One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing, and Lady St. Edmund in Candleshoe. She was also caricatured in many Disney cartoons and was one of a few performers to receive an Academy, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Award (EGOT) throughout her entire career.

Earning the the nickname, "First Lady of American Theatre", Hayes began her performance career on the stage and acted in shows, like Caesar and Cleopatra, Twelfth Night, The Glass Menagerie, Happy Birthday, Harriet, Time Remembered, Victoria Regina, The Cherry Orchard, The White House, You Can't Take It With You, The Show-Off, The Front Page, Harvey, and Long Day's Journey Into Night.

Rarely appearing in feature films, Hayes appeared in her first sound picture with The Sin of Madelon Claudet, where she won Academy Award for Best Actress. Her other film credits included Arrowsmith, A Farewell to Arms, Vanessa: Her Love Story, My Son John, Stage Door Canteen, Anastasia, and Airport.

She was the adopted mother of the late James MacArthur.
