Kiff's good deed goes unnoticed while Reggie's receives lots of attention.
Plot[]
On her way to Table Town Middle School, Kiff leaves her school art project, a papier-mâché sculpture of the founder of Table Town, on the road while helping an old man cross the street, causing the sculpture to be crushed by a steamroller. Later, after Barry recounts Kiff's selfless deed to their friends, Reggie disputes Kiff's comment that "helping people feels good". Wanting to prove Kiff wrong, Reggie helps an old lady cross the street while Kiff and the others watch. Afterwards, the "old lady" takes off her disguise to reveal herself as undercover reporter Jadley Brackson, who is working on a feel-good human interest story for the Table Town Tribune and decides to make Reggie its focus.
While redoing her papier-mâché project with pieces of newspaper, Kiff sees that Reggie's good deed has made the front page of the Table Town Tribune. The next day, Kiff is unable to present her project in class because everyone is more interested in showering Reggie with praise and accolades. After school, Kiff tries to help an old lady cross the street, but she rejects Kiff's help, wanting Reggie to assist her instead. Kiff then sees an ad promoting Reggie's new motivational speaking gig and book Hero I Go Again, along with his newly-founded charity the Reggie Foundation. Annoyed by Reggie's overexposure, she decides to reveal him as a fraud more interested in fame than in helping people.
Kiff disguises herself as an old lady and finds Reggie standing at a streetcorner. She has Barry hide in a bush and record them, intending to show that Reggie does not actually like helping people. To Kiff's surprise, Reggie offers to help her cross the street, but during their walk, she manages to make him admit on camera that he thinks she is really a disguised reporter. Kiff then brings Reggie to a crowd of people she had earlier gathered with the promise of free hot dogs. After revealing Reggie's true character, however, the crowd simply disregards Kiff's exposé, while the "reporter" whom Kiff had invited to cover the story reveals herself to be an undercover old lady and accuses Kiff of disrespecting old ladies by disguising herself as one.
Faced with the angry crowd, Kiff declares that her experience has taught her that one should be glad when a person helps another person, even if it is done for the wrong reasons. The crowd members angrily accuse her of using her "emotional growth" to win them over, then board a bus to the old lady's retirement home, where hot dogs are actually being served.
Exhausted by the entire ordeal, Kiff, Barry, and Reggie sit together on the curb. Reggie receives a text notifying him that his book deal has been cancelled. Kiff notices another old lady struggling to board the bus and helps her out, for which she is grateful. Reggie watches this with great interest and seemingly reaches an emotional breakthrough of his own, only to ask Kiff if the old lady was a reporter.
