Hendel Segedi Butoy is a Brazilian-American Disney director, animator, and storyboard artist with a career spanning over three decades.
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, his family was of Romanian/Hungarian descent. His parents were refugees from Communist forces and after living in Brazil for years, Butoy's mother’s sister helped them emigrate to the U.S. when he was four years old, settling in Glendale, California. He became interested in animation through his school and his Christian upbringing.
He graduated from the California Institute of the Arts where he was taught by several veteran Disney animators and joined Disney Studios professionally in 1979. He worked on character animation for features, such as The Fox and the Hound, The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, and served as a director for Fantasia 2000. He left the company shortly afterward.
Butoy has worked on numerous iconic projects, showcasing his exceptional talent and creativity. His innovative techniques and storytelling abilities have earned him critical acclaim and entertained audiences with his stunning visuals and captivating narratives while also teaching Animation at Southern Adventist University.
