Henry Calvin was an American comic actor, who, for Disney, was best known for his role as Sergeant Garcia in the Spanish Western comedy-drama series Zorro. He also portrayed Gonzorgo in Babes in Toyland and Ben Cotter in Toby Tyler, both of which he appeared with his Zorro co-star, Gene Sheldon. For Disneyland Records, he sang "Never Smile at a Crocodile" on the Peter Pan soundtrack. Calvin also sang and released a version of the "Zorro" theme song. Calvin's rich baritone voice also contributed to a number of musical interludes over the course of the series, singing everything from drinking songs to a serenade, and even a duet with Annette Funicello in one episode.
Born in Dallas, Texas, he sang in the choir of his local Baptist church as a child; he was often the featured soloist. After graduating from Sunset High School in Dallas, Texas, he attended Southern Methodist University before pursuing a career as an actor and singer.
Calvin hosted a 1950 NBC radio show while also appearing on Broadway before beginning a television career as Big Ben in the children's TV series Howdy Doody. He also appeared in The Dick Van Dyke Show, Petticoat Junction, The Girl from U.N.C.L.E., Run, Buddy, Run, and Mannix.
His film credits included Crime Against Joe, The Broken Star, and Ship of Fools.
He also kept in touch with other members of the Zorro cast, even traveling with Guy Williams in 1973 to attend a charity event. He died in Dallas from throat cancer in 1975.
