"Heroes, Villains and Cows" was a deleted song from Home on the Range sung by the Mariachi Butterflies, who were to serve as narrators before being scrapped. It was originally going to be the opening, and also to introduce the Mariachi Butterflies in this film as they would have been the first characters to appear onscreen, but "(You Ain't) Home on the Range" was chosen at the last minute for the final version of the film. As a result, the butterflies were cut in the final version, causing the song to be deleted.
The song also uses live-action footage from various silent era westerns with the butterflies animated over them. This was supposed to help everyone see what the setting for the film was.
Lyrics[]
Mariachi Butterflies:(laughing) Jorge: ¡Vamonos! Umberto: Join in, everybody!
Jorge: Gather round, señorita, señor
It's a moment you've all been waiting for Mariachi Butterflies: Pack your troubles and worries away
and we'll play you a sweet serenade
Umberto: It's a tale of the wild and woolly West
So sit back and prepare to be impressed
Mariachi Butterflies: 'Cause we've packed it with more than enough
of the stuff of which legends are made
Heroes and villains Umberto: An exciting stampede and incredible things Jorge: Also- Umberto: Life from the prairies and outlaws and cowboys
So gather around in the camp, as the sun is going down
Mariachi Butterflies: And there's more than just heroes and villains Umberto: Desperadoes and rangers and all kinds of dangers Jorge: And not to forget-
Umberto: Also gunslinging strangers who mosey into town Jorge: But especially cows
(spoken) Umberto: Wait a second, Jorge. Did you say cows? Jorge: Sí, Umberto, cows. Fantastic heroic cows. Umberto: Do they stampede? Jorge: No. But through their pursed severe and bravery, they did things that will shock and amaze you. Umberto: All cows stampede. Jorge: I can see I will have to tell you the story myself. Umberto: What kind of cow doesn't stampede?
Mariachi Butterflies: Heroes and Villains Umberto: Pioneers and vaqueros and wild pistoleros Jorge: And also the cows Umberto: And the busting of broncos and the mighty frontier
The saloons and the falling for a start Jorge: But it's more than just Mariachi Butterflies: Heroes and villains
Umberto: It's the whole enchilada
from here to Nevada Jorge: No cows? Umberto: Don't you worry,
we're living off nada Jorge: The cows Umberto: The cigarettes, the guns- Jorge: Cows! Umberto: Deaths and fate
Mariachi Butterflies: And the most important part, heroes and villains...
