Hiroyuki Sanada, born Hiroyuki Shimozawa, is a Japanese actor. He has appeared in numerous Japanese films since childhood, such as Shogun's Samurai, G.I. Samurai, Samurai Reincarnation, Legend of the Eight Samurai, House on Fire, Yellow Fangs, and famously Ring, Spiral, and Ring 2, where he portrayed Ryƫji Takayama.
He began to appear in American productions starting with The Last Samurai and since appeared in Rush Hour 3, Speed Racer, 47 Ronin, Minions, Mortal Kombat, Army of the Dead, Westworld, Bullet Train, and John Wick: Chapter 4.
For Disney, he played Akihiko in Avengers: Endgame and Hawkeye. For ABC, he played Dogen in Lost, and Satoshi Takeda and Revenge. For Hulu played Lord Yoshii Toranaga in ShĆgun.
Additionally, he played Shingen Yashida in the 20th Century Studios film The Wolverine.
