"Hitting the Big Time" is the fourth episode of Marvel's Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. It premiered on February 5, 2025, immediately followed by "The Unicorn Unleashed!"

Synopsis[]

Peter and Norman work through creative differences, while Lonnie undergoes a loyalty test.

Plot[]

Peter continues to work as Oscorp, but is chastised by an enraged Bentley Wittman for not speaking up properly. His fellow interns are also growing suspicious of him constantly getting called up to talk to Osborn all the time. While going to meet up with him again, he runs into Harry who quickly befriends him. In private, Osborn shows Peter the news of the Avengers splitting due to the Sokovia Accords, but assures him that it will be no problem for him. He further reveals that he has designed a series of costumes for him to try on in place of his old one.

Meanwhile, Lonnie sees Pearl off before secretly going to meet Donovan who issues a harsh set of rules for him. When Lonnie complains about not doing much, he decides to give him the task of going to La Fresca's to pick up some food for him. Lonnie arrives at the restaurant, but when he asks for Donovan's order, he is confronted by several gang members including Carmilla Black who tells Lonnie to tell Donovan that they will meet with him soon. Lonnie gets chased out of the restaurant and frantically heads back to the hideout.

Lonnie angrily confronts Donovan over what just occurred, with Donovan revealing that Carmilla is a member of the Scorpions lead by Mac Gargan. He tells him that the One Hundred and Tenth Gang are the only things protecting him as the Scorpions are not to be messed with and that now that they have seen his face, he is incapable of protecting his family unless he stays with him. Lonnie reluctantly agrees to his predicament, but demands that he be told everything, something Donovan promises as soon as he starts to trust him.

Peter tries on a variety of different outfits, but each one (a costume with a cape, a costume with wings, and a costume that is dark and shady) do nothing for him as they go against his spider gimmick. He apologizes to Osborn for not finding the right one, but he assures him that he also needs to listen to Peter and settles on a white streamlined outfit that is perfect for Peter. Using his new suit, he rescues a group of people who are caught in a large automobile fire by a group of Russian criminals. Peter is congratulated for his heroic efforts and leaves. He returns to Oscorp, but accidentally reveals his identity to Harry.

The Russian criminals in question, consisting of Dmitri Smerdyakov, Mikhail Sytsevich, Roxanna Volkov, and Mila Masaryk, all flee from police via their van. During the heist, Masaryk leaps from the van with their stolen goods, promising to come for them, while the others are captured. Masaryk makes her way to a hidden lab in an alleyway, and meets with an Oscorp employee: Dr. Otto Octavius.

Trivia[]

  • The title is a reference to the comic book storyline Big Time, which saw Peter adopting a new status quo in his life, following the events of One More Day and Brand New Day.
  • References to Captain America: Civil War:
    • A website named WHIH, reports that T'Challa's father, T'Chaka, was killed in a bombing from the film.
    • The airport battle is shown to have happened in this universe, and Scott Lang grows into Giant Man in front of Captain America and the Winter Soldier.
    • WHIH also reports on the fight between Captain America and Iron Man.
    • The World News posted an article on the Lagos disaster, where Wanda Maximoff accidentally caused a building to catch on fire, which killed tons of people.
    • Since the series takes place in an alternate universe, Peter isn't involved in the airport battle.
  • Norman mentions Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron and makes comments similar to the argument Tony Stark would bring up Steve Rogers in Civil War, when he agreed to the Sakovia Accords.
    • Osborn also mentions the Hulk and when he destroyed Johannesburg in Age of Ultron, when Wanda and Quicksilver wanted to use him against the Avengers, when they were still part of HYDRA.
  • The first three suits that Peter tries on are the Prodigy suit, the Hornet suit, and the Dusk suit, all of which debuted in the Identity Crisis storyline. The three would later be adopted by Ritchie Gilmore, Eddie McDonough, and Cassie St. Commons.
  • One of the suit tests features Peter returning a balloon to a child. This could be a homage to the infamous balloon missions for the 2004 Spider-Man 2 video game.
  • When Peter wears the white Spider-Man suit, he clings onto a glass building to admire his suit. Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man did the same thing when he viewed himself in the black symbiote suit for the first time, in Spider-Man 3.
  • Peter's white Spider-Man suit resembles the suit he wore as part of the Future Foundation in the comics.
  • Harry Osborn discovers Peter is Spider-Man, just like Ned Leeds in Spider-Man: Homecoming, only it's at Oscorp Industries and not at Peter's apartment.
  • When Norman reveals the future foundation inspired suit, the music in the background is very similar to the Avengers theme.
  • This is the first episode to not feature aunt May or Nico.
  • The Chitarri invasion from the first Avengers film is mentioned by both Peter and Norman.
