"Home School" is the eighth episode of the Disney+ animated series, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. It premiered on April 6, 2022 on Disney+ and aired on January 28, 2023 on Disney Channel.

Synopsis[]

When Penny inadvertently gets her homeless teacher, Ms. Hill, fired, to right her wrong, Penny starts a fundraiser, and Zoey turns to Uncle Bobby to learn the ways of the funk.

Plot[]

A perfect start at health class is turned to the worse for Penny and her friends by the arrival of Miss Hill, a mean and strict teacher who hides her cruelty behind sass and sarcasm. She is filling in Miss Eckhart, who is giving birth, and will not be returning for a few days. Miss Hill distributes pop quizzes for all, but when they try to assert her authority, she gives everyone detentions.

It is later revealed that Miss Hill took everyone’s cellphones, preventing Penny from getting the chicken she needed for Oscar’s chicken cacciatore. Fearing she will be kicked out, Penny enlists KG’s help to get a state of the art catsuit and with it, she decides to go undercover to the school to get it back. There, she gets her cell phone back…and finds Miss Hill, treating the teacher’s lounge as if it were her own home: getting her face done, dancing to music, making toast and reading the newspaper. Penny tells the news to her friends and lunch. But before she can do so, Zoey tells the gang that she was voted drum Major, which means she will have to be up front instead of the back as usual. Penny encourages her to seek audience with Uncle Bobby, who was a drum Major in college. Miss Hill arrives and admonishes everyone, in her own sarcastic way, for using more than two condiments. For this, they receive detention. Penny tells everyone about Miss Hill’s disposition, implying that she is homeless and everyone promises to keep it a secret.

At Suga Mama’s house, Penny learns three things: a news article saying Miss Hill got fired and that Bobby went to prom with her. Her given name is revealed to be Lisa.

Dijonay is revealed to be the whistleblower and Miss Hightower awards her by cleaning away her lunch debt. Penny goes over to Miss Hill’s dilapidated car to apologize, but she has already accepted her fate. Back at Suga Mama’s house, after vacuuming the floor, taking care of the garbage disposal and cleaning Suga Mama’s bathrobe, Zoey is given a tape and stereo by Bobby, who instructs her to listen to it day and night.

To make up for things, Penny invites Miss Hill to live in her house. Even so Oscar and Suga Mama do not appreciate her company; Oscar simply because he does not want another mouth to feed and Suga Mama for breaking Bobby’s heart. Frustrated by their hostility and Oscar’s taunting, Miss Hill boards the Proud house up, holding the family hostage for a week.

Penny decides to start a trust fund to pay for Miss Hill’s upkeep. She gives an announcement at the basketball court but her audience is uninterested and she is dragged off-stage. On the plus side, Zoey, with some encouragement from Bobby, manages to dance perfectly. This gives KG an idea to use Zoey’s dancing and twirling as motivation for the fundraiser. The fundraiser reaches it’s maximum capacity, a million dollars and Penny and her friends return home to present the news to Miss Hill. She is overjoyed with tears.

In the end, Miss Hill and Bobby ride off into the sunset via limo despite Suga Mama’s objections.

Cast[]

Song[]

  • "It's My House" by Diana Ross
  • "My Prerogative" by Bobby Brown

Trivia[]

  • Morals:
    • Some people you think are mean just need to be shown a little kindness.
    • You should be generous to those who are less fortunate.
  • The video game that KG is seen playing features a character that resembles Sora traversing an area that looks like Dive to the Heart from Kingdom Hearts. Production coordinator Breana Williams later confirmed the game was indeed Kingdom Hearts.[1]
  • When Miss Hill asks Penny and her friends how many condiments they have, they all taunt her by replying with "A lot!", to which Miss Hill says, "You know how many detentions you got? A lot! And don't think I don't know that song!" This is a reference to the 21 Savage song "a lot".
  • When Penny begins to explain how she saw Mrs. Hill living in the teacher's lounge, but begins talking about the suit she brought to enter, Maya says "Will you get to the point, Black Widow?". Later, when she says how school became better when Hill was fired, Maya calls her Cruella.
  • Bobby Proud used to go to the prom with Ms. Hill.
  • Zoey refers to "My Prerogative" as "the Britney Spears" song, which Bobby is insulted by. Spears did indeed cover the song in 2004 for the album "Greatest Hits: My Prerogative".
  • Ms. Hightower’s first name is revealed to be Rhonda.
  • Miss Hill makes a pop culture reference by mentioning that she makes Hot Pockets in her car.
  • When Penny and friends go up to Zoey after their teacher's fundraising skyrockets out KG's screen, they recreate the "Sike, that's the wrong number/Supa Hot" meme, complete with Dijonay running off the screen in shock with her hands on her face and eyes rolled back much like a guy does in the original. The animation loops for a few seconds as well, emulating the effect of a GIF.
