"Hot Stuff" is the sixth episode of the Disney+ series American Born Chinese.
Synopsis[]
Amelia throws Jin a birthday party, which gets crashed by Niu Mowang.
Plot[]
Wei-Chen feels guilty for his argument with Jin and for taking the jade pendant. Guanyin informs him that they are still not sure if it is the fourth scroll, so she will take it to Shiji Niangniang, known as Lady Rocky (a name that she apparently gave herself). At school, Jin reluctantly tells Amelia about his and Wei-Chen's falling out before revealing that it is his birthday. Not wanting it to go unnoticed, Amelia offers to invite him to the local bowling alley to celebrate and even opts to invite some of their friends over.
Shiji, owner of Jewel of the Orient, swindles a customer before being greeted by Guanyin and introducing her pet Pixiu, who was transformed into a dog for pooping in the Jade Emperor's pond and had his butt sealed up. Guanyin tells her about the jade necklace and asks that she check if it is the fourth scroll. Shiji agrees, but wants payment and ask that she have her beaded bracelet, which Guanyin got as a gift from Nezha. Pixiu has the ability to eat stones; he spits out the celestial stones, but swallows Earth based ones. After eating and spitting the beaded bracelet, Guanyin hands the jade pendant to Pixiu.
Jin has two separate conversations with his mom and dad. Christine insists on focusing on her drink, which she hopes to have it become her new business, while Simon does not think it is a sound investment. Jin realizes that they are both upset over the loss of the jade pendant and claims that the other wants to talk to make up and apologize. As Jin is dropped off at the bowling alley, he is greeted by all his friends, including Anuj and Suzy, the latter of whom claims to be keeping Travis in line should he say something offensive. As a gift, Amelia gives Jin the hoodie he wore when they meet at the store early in the year.
During the party, Wei-Chen arrives. Amelia reveals that she invited him and Jin gets a gift from him: Christine's new green powder that was blessed by Guanyin. While the party is still running smoothly, Jin confronts Wei-Chen and he admits that he wanted to apologize and go back to being friends. Ji Gong arrives and are chased into the arcade in the back room where they usher everyone out. Niu Mowang arrives, offering Wei-Chen to join him, but Sun Wukong appears, planning to confront Mowang himself. A fight between the two breaks out and Gong chases Jin and Wei-Chen, only to get knocked out by Sha Wujing who goes to aid Wukong. Jin and Wei-Chen try to usher the party to end soon.
Back at home, Christine and Simon both realize that Jin lied to them about wanting to talk, but are both amused by it. Wukong sends Wujing away, but gets stabbed by the mirror piece. Wei-Chen arrives, but Mowang takes Wukong away. Jin manages to get everyone out, learning that Anuj and Suzy are "together", though the latter denies it, and Amelia is happy to see that Jin enjoyed himself. Jin goes to check on Wei-Chen and he tells him that Mowang made off with his father.
In a mid-credits scene, Jamie Yao is teaching his Shakespeare class and gets a call from his agent Marisa who informs him that he has until the end of the day to decide if he will attend the Beyond Repair reunion taping. Jamie is reluctant as he does not want to say the catchphrase, but Marisa informs him that he will at least get paid, which would hopefully lead to him getting his movie produced.
