This article is about the character portrayed by Chris Evans. For the character portrayed by Joseph Quinn, see Human Torch.

The Void is like a wasteland. Reed called it a metaphysical junkyard where anything useless goes before it gets annihilated forever. And where the TVA sends people that don't play nice with the rest of the Multiverse. […] Everyone here's on the run from Alioth. Most don't make it. There's a Resistance, though. Other people like us that managed to survive. They're hiding out in the borderlands trying to find a way out of here.

The Human Torch (real name Jonathan Lowell Spencer "Johnny" Storm) is a Marvel Comics character who appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool & Wolverine. The Human Torch is a member of the Fantastic Four and the younger brother of Susan Storm. He has the power to transform into a being of fire. However, at some point in his life, Johnny was sent to the Void by the TVA, after somehow messing up his timeline, where he resided for a number of years, before being killed by Cassandra Nova.

He is portrayed by Chris Evans, who reprised his role from the 2005 film and its sequel.

Human Torch was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Background[]

This Human Torch is from an alternate timeline who got the power of fire when he and his family got experimented on. The family became known as the Fantastic Four and became superheros in their world. However, Johnny caused problems which meant he got caught by the TVA, who sent him to the Void for his actions. Johnny joined the resistance against the Void's ruler, Cassandra Nova, while hiding himself so he wouldn't get caught by her.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Pyrokinesis: Human Torch is able to generate fire at will.
    • Fire Manipulation: Human Torch is able to absorb fire and manipulate fire at will.
    • Flight: With pyrokinesis, Human Torch is able to fly in flames.
    • Cold Resistance: Human Torch is able to withstand extreme cold as he is too hot for ice to freeze him.

  • Water: Human Torch is weak against water, which may extinguish his flames.

Role in the film[]

The Human Torch appears when Deadpool and Wolverine are captured and sent to Cassandra Nova in the void. It is never explained how long Johnny has been here, but from his comment about the TVA, they sent him here because he somehow managed to mess up his timeline. Deadpool mistakes Johnny Storm for Steve Rogers, referencing Chris Evans' former portrayal.

Johnny powers up to face Cassandra's henchmen, but he ends up getting captured when one of the henchmen is able to put out his flames. On the way to Cassandra's base, Johnny explains who Deadpool and Wolverine are dealing with and what life is like here in the Void. However, Deadpool snitches on Johnny and tells Cassandra what he thinks of her. This causes her to rip off Johnny's skin, killing him instantly, although he tries to deny it beforehand. In the end of the film, Deadpool shows the audience what Johnny really said about Cassandra, revealing he had said some very crude things about her.

Trivia[]
