"Hungee Squirrel" is the first segment of the twenty-fifth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Kiff.
Synopsis[]
An unflattering photo of Kiff goes viral, and she’s determined to stop it.
Plot[]
The Chatterleys go out for dinner at Saddles, where Kiff orders her usual meal, a large hamburger. The next morning, Kiff receives a concerned email from Barry containing a link to a Table Town Tribune article. She reads the article and discovers that she was captured eating with her mouth agape in the background of a picture taken at Saddles the previous day, and that her expression in the picture has become a viral meme, earning her the nickname "Hungee Squirrel".
Outraged, Kiff visits a local lawyer named Lance Contract with the intent of taking legal action over the meme, only to be told that it is impossible to sue the Internet. Kiff then visits a "memeorologist" for advice on how to deal with the meme; the memeorologist turns out to be Terri, who tells Kiff that Hungee Squirrel is a "category five" meme which will not blow over anytime soon. On the street, Kiff is recognized as Hungee Squirrel and mobbed with requests for autographs and pictures. To escape the attention, she enters the Table Town Library, where she finds her friends watching a Hungee Squirrel music video.
While waiting for the meme to blow over, Kiff hides in her bed. Eventually, a picture of Trevor waking up from a nap in the library goes viral, to Kiff's relief, as she believes that people will soon forget about Hungee Squirrel and focus on Trevor, who is now known as the "Just Woke Up Kid". Kiff leaves her bedroom and goes downstairs, where she is shocked to see a TV commercial announcing that Saddles will be rebranding as the Hungee Squirrel. She calls Ma and Pa Saddle, the restaurant's owners, who reveal that Kiff unintentionally signed away the rights to her likeness at Saddles when she wrote her name on her paper placemat, which contained a deceptively hidden personal release agreement.
At the grand opening of the Hungee Squirrel, Kiff asks Ma and Pa Saddle to sign a new contract giving her back the rights to her likeness, but they refuse. A photographer gets Ma and Pa Saddle to sign their names on a slab of wet cement in front of the Hungee Squirrel building. Afterwards, Kiff has the building lifted by a nearby crane, revealing that the terms of the new contract are inscribed on the concrete underneath, and that Ma and Pa Saddle have been duped into signing away the rights to Kiff's likeness back to her. Kiff declares that Ma and Pa Saddle are forbidden from using her likeness, then acknowledges that her fans, including the photographer and the construction crew, helped her pull off the plan. As everyone leaves, Ma Saddle reveals that the Chatterleys would have been entitled to free meals for life at the Hungee Squirrel, shocking Martin.
Some time later, the Hungee Squirrel has reverted back to Saddles, and business at the restaurant continues normally. As the Chatterleys and Barry enjoy a meal at Saddles, Beryl remarks that everyone got a happy ending after all, though Martin notes that they could have been eating there for free. At another table, Trevor negotiates with Ma and Pa Saddle over the potential use of his likeness at the restaurant.
