"Hustler's Apprentice" is the first segment of the thirty-sixth episode of Recess.
Synopsis[]
Gus joins the Hustler Kid, but causes trouble.
Plot[]
Gus is flying his father's model plane during recess when the string snaps, causing it fly away and get lost. Gus panics until the Gang suggest that he make a visit to the Hustler Kid. Hustler Kid just so happens to have the plane, but will only give it away for a price. Gus cannot afford it, so Hustler Kid makes a deal with Gus that he work under him until he can pay it off. Gus learns about Hustler's Kid trade, which is to sell things to the other kids effortlessly. He teaches him how to sell a package of useless and tasteless candy bars and manages to clean it out. Gus soon gets to a point where he is let in on the hustler hide out and even hustles the Gang.
Gus begins to step over the line when he hustles fake hall passes, which Hustler Kid considers as going against the code. Soon, Gus begins to out hustle Hustler Kid and takes over his business during recess. The Gang find him, now going by Francis, and he reveals that all he has left are short string paddle balls. T.J. gets an idea and helps Hustler Kid reclaim his place on the playground by helping him to hustle the toys off. Gus cannot meet the supply or demand and Hustler Kid takes over. Gus is officially let go and apologizes to the Gang for how he acted. They forgive him under the condition that he finish eating all the terrible candy bars he sold them earlier.
