"I Become Supreme Lord of the Bathroom" is the second episode of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It was released on December 19, 2023 alongside "I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher".

Synopsis[]

Percy finds his place at Camp Half Blood, where he learns just how special his origins may be.

Plot[]

Percy briefly awakens to the sound of Annabeth Chase telling him that he drools in his sleep. When he awakens fully, he is greeted by Grover who tells him that his mother is gone and that he is at Camp Half Blood. Percy has no time to talk and wants to look for his father. Instead, he comes across Dionysus, better known as Mr. D, who sarcastically toys with Percy and tries to order him to get him wine. Mr. Brunner arrives and reveals himself as the centaur Chiron who shows Percy around the camp.

Chiron explains that all the children attending the camp are demigods and have their own cabins. Those who are not claimed are shared at the Hermes cabin. Percy meets Luke Castellan of the son of Hermes who welcomes him with open arms. He also crosses paths with Clarisse La Rue, the daughter of Ares, who is a bully and does not believe that he defeated a minotaur. Luke attempts to help Percy find what he is good at in an effort to find out what his parentage may be, though this ends in failure. Luke tells the history of Thalia, Zeus' daughter who sacrificed herself to protect the camp.

Grover, feeling self-conscious about recent events, goes to the Council of Cloven Elders for advice. He later informs Chiron and Mr. D that he found out that Sally is most likely alive, but Chiron and Mr. D inform him that not only are they aware of this, but that they forbid him from telling Percy about it as it could have long term consequences about his fate and what is head for him.

While offering his share to the gods (i.e. putting his food in the fire), Percy decides to remain committed to discovering who his father is. As he heads back to his cabin, Percy is accosted by Clarisse and the other Ares cabin members who drag him into the bathroom to torture him. Instead, the water from the toilets apparently comes to life and attacks Clarisse and her crew, forcing them to run. Annabeth approaches Percy, admitting that she has been stalking him, and tells him that he is exactly what she needs for her team in capture the flag.

Percy joins Annabeth's team along with Luke who explains that Annabeth is several steps ahead of everyone. Annabeth pulls Percy aside and places him in an isolated area away from everyone. He is suddenly attacked by Clarisse and her squad who chase Percy away to the lake where he is forced to fight. Percy is injured, but succeeds in snapping Clarisse's favorite spear, much to her horror. The fight ends when Annabeth's team reveals that they successfully won the flag. Annabeth appears, having worn her invisibility cap, and tells Percy that she had been watching him this whole time. Percy is upset, but Annabeth pushes him into the lake where he discovers that the water heals him. A blue trident appears over his head and everyone realizes that he is the son of Poseidon.

Chiron and Mr. D tell Percy that now that Poseidon has claimed him, he is allowed to take part in a quest. Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen with Zeus believing that it could only be the work of a child of a major god, in this case Percy. Chiron and Mr. D tell him that he needs to clear his name by finding the bolt which his most likely with Hades. Percy refuses to go as he wants nothing to do with his father, until Grover arrives and tells him that Sally is most likely in Hades and can be rescued. Percy decides to accept the quest.

Trivia[]

  • The title comes from the sixth chapter of the The Lightning Thief, while the episode adapts that chapter, as well as the fifth, seventh, and eighth chapters, and the first half of chapter nine.
  • Luke refers to Oizys as the Goddess of Failure and Disappointment. More accurately, she is the Goddess of Misery and Pain and is the daughter of Nyx, the Goddess of Night.
  • When Percy is laying his things out in the Hermes cabin, a chain is hanging above him with medallions. One of them depicts an image of a minotaur (after his first fight) and the other depicts an image of a trident (foreshadowing his lineage).
  • Walker Scobell's brother and sister made a cameo in this episode at around 19 minutes in.
  • An entire sequence involving the Cloven Council was cut for time. Despite this, Jason Gray-Stanford and Garfield Wilson are still credited as Maron and Leneus, even though they are only seen for a split second.
  • Dior Goodjohn's scream, while planned, caught the whole cast off guard. This is especially noticeable when one of the Ares kids makes an abrupt turn towards Dior.

Book comparisons[]

  • Grover giving Percy ambrosia to heal is removed.
  • Percy only briefly speaks with Mr. D before Chiron takes him away to show him the rest of the camp. In the book, They both have a conversation with Percy to explain how the gods exist in today's world.
  • Much of Percy's experiences at camp are quickly summarized in the series (training, having dinner, etc.). This is spread out more in the book with the dinner moment being simplified to Percy isolating himself and giving pieces of his blue candy as offerings to the gods.
  • Clarisse attempts to give Percy a swirly at night because she does not like him. In the book, she does it during the daytime and as part of an "initiation", though it is implied that she did it out spite for lookin at her funny.
  • The capture the flag game remains relatively the same with some minor changes. In the book, Clarisse knocks Percy into the lake where he learns the water can heal him and he successfully fights back, but the show changes it to Annabeth being the one to knock him in after they have already won.
  • The hellhound attacking immediately after the game is removed.
  • Percy learns that Sally is in the Underworld from Ares later on during the quest, but the series changes to Grover telling him just as he is given it, thus increasing his motivation.
