"I Wanna Dance With My Buddy" is the thirtieth episode, the season one finale, as well as the series finale of the Disney Channel animated series Hailey's On It!
Synopsis[]
Hailey's plan to tell Scott her feelings at the school dance is thrown into disarray when a compatibility app says they might not be meant for each other.
Plot[]
As Becker scooters away from her house, she notices several people in suits following her and does whatever she can to avoid them. However she is eventually captured by them and taken to a dark room where Kennedy arrives and, after revealing they are in the school and the whole stint to be a danceposal, asks Becker to go with her to the Totally 80's To The Max Dance. Becker agrees and the onlooking students cheer. As she watches the danceposal, Hailey reminds Beta that she has committed to telling Scott how she feels about him with the note she wrote. Scott, of course, is none the wiser, but is excited about going with her as friends as they do every year.
During lunch, Kristine and A.C. have become the administrators for the dance, though the latter is being a stickler as A.C. is angry his fan theme was not selected and declared himself as the fun police. As Chainsaw bemoans the fact that he does not have someone to go out with, Genesis reveals a new app called Snack Match which pairs couples up based on their food outcome. It apparently works as Chainsaw uses it and gets paired with the incredibly similar Third Becky, impressing everyone. The entire school gets into the craze and uses it to find dates While .initially dismissive of it at first, Hailey and Scott try it. Hailey winds up with a lobster while Scott gets a cookie. Genesis explains that they are incompatible with one another. This scares Hailey as she wonders how she will not complete her list item.
Meanwhile, power couple Destiny and Tommy D break up when the latter discovers that they are incompatible. When Destiny discovers that Scott is compatible with her, she asks him out, though Scott still wants Hailey to go with him. Feeling uncomfortable, Scott asks Hailey if she is okay for him to go out with Destiny. While angry, she agrees, especially when he reminds her of "Sanjay Singh", her made up boyfriend. When Scott asks about seeing a picture of Sanjay, Hailey pulls up a calone add and crops it to hide the logo. Feeling content, Scott leaves and decides to go to the dance with Destiny.
At the dance, everyone is enjoying themselves. However Jonathan mistook the theme to be the 1880's rather than the 1980's, with A.C. purposefully dressing in 1780's attire as his theme was not chosen for the dance. As Scott talks with Destiny, he begins to realize that Destiny is not interested in him, especially since she keeps asking about Tommy D. He is disappointed when Hailey isn't present and admits to Kristine that he isn't sure about there being someone out there for him. Kristine comforts him, telling him that there is definitely someone out there for him. After Scott mentioned he tossed all the food in Snack Match he did not like in real life, Kristine tells Scott that he did the app wrong and has him do take the quiz again, finding out that he is actually butter, which goes well with lobster. After thinking about it, Scott comes to the realization that he is in love with Hailey. After showing Kristine the picture of Sanjay, she tells Scott it is an ad. After learning this, Scott happily leaves the dance, running through the rain while doing so. Stopping only to tell the Sandwich Legends he is going to ask someone out and to get flowers. Upon arriving at Hailey's house, he is stunned by how she looks in her dress. But before he can confess, Scott is shocked to find out that Sanjay Singh is real. Hailey says Sanjay's father is stationed at Camp Pendleton and that he finally moved to Oceanside.
After an awkward limousine ride to the dance, Scott returns to the gym first as Kristine asks him how it went. and is dumbfounded to learn that Sanjay is real. They watch as Hailey lists Sanjay's skills and accomplishments and are amazed that Sanjay even manages to pull off a backflip that Scott previously said he wanted to do. Kristine offers to be there for Scott if he needs her and he thanks his former girlfriend. On the dance floor Hailey is enjoying her time Sanjay when he asks her if she wants to date him, to which she agrees, Beta, while approving of the relationship, urges Hailey to confess to Scott just like she had planned on her list. However Hailey, believing Scott will never think of her as anything more than a friend, gives up on persuading a relationship with him and the list. So she destroys her note and decides to dance with Sanjay instead and accepts Sanjay's offer of dating, believing that Scott does not love her and not caring about what happens in the future. During that time, Bored Murray takes Genesis to dance with him and Destiny takes Tommy D back. As Hailey and Sanjay dance, a Chaos Bot enters the gym and is quickly smashed under a wrecking ball prop dropped by Beta, but not before A.C. notices it and it seems to recognize him, much to his amazement.
When all the couples are called to take pictures, Hailey asks a disheartened Scott to watch their things and tells him she and Sanjay are now dating. Scott, hiding his pain, agrees to watch her bag and pretends to express his joy for his crush. She thanks Scott for being a good friend and thinks cookies and lobster can go well together. Scott tries to explain that he retook the test and got a result that is compatible with her, but decides against it. As Hailey and Sanjay get their picture taken, her phone falls out of her bag and detects Scott's new results. However he deletes them both for the sake of her fledgling relationship with Sanjay. As Scott sadly concedes Hailey to Sanjay, he suddenly sees a time glitch with large Chaos Bots destroying everything. Beta tells Scott that Hailey has been hiding a very important list item from him this whole time and against Hailey's wishes and his programming, he finally reveals list item #143 to Scott, and as the episode ends on a cliffhanger, it leaves the boy in a total state of shock.
