Idrissa Akuna "Idris" Elba, OBE, is an English film, television, and theatre actor, musician, and DJ who is best known for his role as Russell "Stringer" Bell on the HBO crime drama series The Wire (2002-2004), and currently stars as John Luther on the BBC psychological crime drama series, Luther, since 2010. He has also played Stacker Pentecost in Guillermo del Toro's 2013 monster film, Pacific Rim, Commandant in the 2015 critically acclaimed Netflix-distributed war drama film, Beasts of No Nation, Krall / Balthazar Edison in the 2016 science fiction adventure film, Star Trek Beyond, and as Brixton Lore in the 2019 Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw.
For Disney, Elba portrayed Heimdall in the 2011 Marvel action film, Thor and reprised his role in the 2013 film, Thor: The Dark World, in the 2015 film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, in the 2017 film, Thor: Ragnarok, and in the 2018 film, Avengers: Infinity War. He also voiced Shere Khan in Jon Favreau's 2016 live-action film adaptation of The Jungle Book, Chief Bogo in the 2016 film Zootopia, and Fluke in the 2016 Disney/Pixar film Finding Dory.
