Idrissa Akuna "Idris" Elba, OBE, is an English-Sierra Leonean actor, voice actor, writer, musician, singer, DJ, and rapper. He is best known for his roles as Russell "Stringer" Bell in the HBO crime drama series The Wire (2002–2004) and John Luther in the BBC1 psychological crime drama series Luther (since 2010). He also played Stacker Pentecost in Guillermo del Toro's 2013 monster film Pacific Rim, Commandant in the 2015 critically acclaimed Netflix war drama film Beasts of No Nation, Krall/Balthazar Edison in the 2016 sci-fi adventure film Star Trek Beyond, Brixton Lore in the 2019 Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, and Robert DuBois/Bloodsport in the 2021 DCEU film The Suicide Squad. Additionally, he voiced Knuckles the Echidna in the 2022 Paramount Pictures live-action film Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
For Disney, he portrayed Heimdall in the 2011 Marvel action film Thor and reprised this role in Thor: The Dark World, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, and Thor: Love and Thunder. He also voiced Shere Khan in Jon Favreau's live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book, Chief Bogo in the Disney animated feature film Zootopia, and Fluke in the Disney/Pixar film Finding Dory (all released in 2016).
