Iman Vellani is a Pakistani-Canadian actress and writer from Markham, Ontario.
At the 2019 Toronto Film Festival, she was part of the Next Wave Committee.[1]
For Disney, she portrays Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in the 2022 Disney+ television series of the same name, marking her onscreen debut, and subsequently appearing in the 2023 film The Marvels, marking her feature film debut. She is set to return in the Disney+ series Marvel Zombies. Additionally, she portrayed her in Avengers: Quantum Encounter.
Vellani also appeared in the documentary short A Fan's Guide to Ms. Marvel, which was released a week before the premiere of Ms. Marvel, as well as the eleventh episode of the docuseries Marvel Studios: Assembled entitled "The Making of Ms. Marvel", and the second episode of MPower entitled "Captain Marvel".
On July 14, 2023, Marvel reported that Iman Vellani would be co-writing a new Ms. Marvel comic, entitled "Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant", alongside fellow Marvel comic, and Ms. Marvel writer, Sabir Pirzada, which would chronicle the resurrection of Kamala Khan, and detail the revelation that she is a mutant, tying into the series.[2]

- Following Iman Vellani's casting as Kamala Khan, she was congratulated by Ms. Marvel creator, G. Willow Wilson[3], and fellow Marvel cast mates Kumail Nanjiani[4] and Simu Liu.[5], and fellow Marvel cast mates Kumail Nanjiani[6]
- When asked about the pressure of portraying the MCU's first Muslim superhero, she replied:
- ”The fact that the show is being made and they’re including this character in the MCU is [what’s important]. I don’t really have to go out of my way and talk about being a Muslim and being Pakistani — it all comes out in the show. People seeing a person like me involved in a project as big as this is, I think, inspiring enough.”[7]
