The DT-series sentry droid, also known as, Imperial Sentry Droid is a hulking black security droid resembling a Stormtrooper used to protect the Galactic Empire's cargo ships. Usually, they would only be activated one at a time aboard their vessel, but when one droid was attacked by a perceived threat, the others would also activate to attack the intruder.
During the early Empire era, the Kaminoans had white-plating versions and wrist blasters built-in both arms. By the mid Imperial Era, the Ghost crew encounter a variation that had a built-in E-11 medium blaster rifle on the droid's right or left hand depending on the unit. Both versions were used as training droids.
Appearances[]
Star Wars Rebels[]
Imperial Sentry Droids appeared in the episode "The Wynkahthu Job", in which they attacked the crew of the Ghost when they sought to salvage supplies and treasure from an abandoned Imperial cargo ship in the upper atmosphere of the planet Wynkahthu. One captured both Azmorigan and Garazeb Orrelios before they were rescued by Ezra Bridger. When they tried to hide from the droid, Azmorigan panicked and shot the droid, inadvertently awakening its companions. The droids then proceeded to attack them and the rest of the crew as they tried to steal as much ammunition and treasure as they were able until the cargo ship began to sink into the maelstrom of storms in Wynkahthu's upper atmosphere. As the Ghost and its crew escaped, the droids were left aboard and sucked into the storms below, destroyed alongside the vessel they had failed to protect.
In "Through Imperial Eyes", Thrawn possesses two droids that tightly tightens him of training opponent.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch[]
Several Imperial Sentry Droids appeared in "Aftermath", as part of a training simulation on Kamino. Wilhuff Tarkin, had ordered these droids to used live-rounds against Clone Force 99, much to the surprise of the clone commando squad, but they nonetheless managed to triumph over the training units. Impressed, Tarkin dispatched the commandos on a mission to Onderon that ultimately changed his mind about their usefulness, with the exception of Crosshair.
They later reappeared in "Return to Kamino" where young clone Omega activated many of the sentry droids to save her squadmates from Crosshair's trap, resulting in an overwhelming number of training units swarming the training facility where Crosshair held them captive. As Elite Squad Trooper ES-02 fled under fire from the training droids, Clone Force 99 united with their lost brother to fight off the droids, with Crosshair and his former squad managing to take out all the units Omega had activated before Admiral Rampart ordered the destruction of Tipoca City.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor[]
Several Imperial Sentry Droids fought Cal Kestis. These models were armed with an built-in RPS-6 rocket launcher or wielded meele weapons like an electrostaff and an larger electrohammer.
Printed media[]
Imperial Sentry Droids appeared in several comics like Darth Vader (2020), Dark Droids: D-Squad, and Legacy of Vader.
In Darth Vader (2020), several were station at Fortress Vader on Mustafar as security. When the Scourge—an artificial intelligence bent on dominating both organic and synthetic minds—assaulted Fortress Vader in an attempt to seize control of Vader himself, it took command of several sentry droids and turned them against him. Though Vader was attacked at a moment of weakness, the Scourge couldn’t devote its full attention to the assault due to a simultaneous conflict elsewhere. That distraction gave Vader the opening he needed to recover, defeat the Scourge’s influence, and destroy the compromised droids.
In Dark Droids comics, many of them fought R2-D2's new D-Squad, consisting of old members; him, QT-KT, and WAC-47, with new members 4-LOM, IG-88, BT-1, and 0-0-0. Several Sentry Droids fought the D-Squad on Ryloth with Scourge-infected KX-series security droids.
In Legacy of Vader, Vaneé unleashed several sentry droids on Kylo Ren, who fought the droids with a lightsaber from his grandfather's collection in his fortress.
Trivia[]
- The Imperial Sentry Droids are modeled after Dark Troopers, a type of battle droid that appeared in the Star Wars "Legends" continuity, specifically the video game Star Wars: Dark Forces. Dark Troopers came in three phases, with the third and last phase most closely resembling the Imperial Sentry Droid.
- The override code Thrawn uses for his Imperial sentries was initially interpreted as either "Rook", a reference to the chess piece and thus Thrawn's tactical knowledge, or "Rukh", a reference to Thrawn's Noghri bodyguard from the Legends continuity.
