"Impossible Child" is a deleted song that would have been performed by King Triton in the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. According to Alan Menken, the song did not make the final cut for the film because they "dramaturgically" did not need it. However, he did tease that audiences could hear the song at a later date.[1]
Lyrics[]
Triton: Ariel, you impossible child,
This is an ocean too far
Ariel, you impossible child,
I'll find you wherever you are
All my fears, my warnings all these years
Don't say "goodbye," answer me, please,
Are you lost or is this all my fault?
Ariel, I will scour the seas 'til there's nothing
But coral and salt
Hold my crown, I'll tear the shoreline down
Run every ship aground 'til they've drowned,
And I've found you
In trying to protect you, I pushed you away
Stay... impossible child
Impossible child
How can I go on if my youngest wandering daughter is gone?
Impossible, impossible...
(spoken) What have I done...?
