"In Harmony" is a song sung by Ariel in The Little Mermaid TV series, featured in the episode, "The Evil Manta". It is sung when Ariel plans to eradicate all prejudice-turned Atlanticans by coaxing them to celebrate in harmony rather than hating each other. A reprise of the song is heard near the end of the episode when the Manta plans to turn Ariel against Flounder; however, he realizes that the Atlanticans are no longer hating each other (including Ariel and Flounder) by living together in harmony, since Ariel coaxed all the sea creatures to get along with each other, which suddenly drives him away.
It also appears on the Disney Sing Along Songs volume Friend Like Me.
Plot
After Ariel and Flounder recall when they first met each other and became friends, Ariel suddenly realizes that it reminds her of the prejudice done by the Manta as she plans to prevent the prejudice-turned Atlanticans from destroying each other. Arriving back at Atlantica, Flounder yells at the angry sea creatures that Ariel is telling the truth about friendship, in which they refuse to listen and continue hating each other. When Ariel realizes that all the sea creatures are different, she coaxes them to celebrate by living in harmony together and not hating each other. This plan brings all the sea creatures together in harmony. However, after the song, the Atlanticans suddenly remember what the Manta told them, while Ariel tells them to ignore what he says to them.
When the Manta plans to turn Ariel and Flounder against each other to finish his plan, he discovers a swordfish and an octopus living together in harmony along with other sea creatures. When Ariel, Flounder, and all the Atlanticans perform together in harmony, the Manta is suddenly humiliated with all the friendship and music, which drives him away. With the Manta defeated, peace is brought back to Atlantica once again.
Lyrics
Ariel:
What makes someone special? I suppose it all depends...
It's what's unique in each of us that we all share as friends...
The difference is our differences, maybe small or great
Variety adds spice to life, so we should celebrate...
In harmony... Harmony...
You're you, I'm me
Together, we can live in harmony
If there was only one note how boring life would be
I'm glad there are so many notes in many different keys
I hear each voice singing with a special quality
And when we sing together, we bring music to the sea!
In harmony...
(with Atlanticans)
Harmony...
You're you, I'm me
Together we can live in harmony!
(Repeated verse above, then instrumental break)
Ooh, in harmony... Harmony...
You're you, I'm me!
Together, we can live in harmony
You're you, I'm me
Together, we can live in harmony!
