On August 9, 2024, it was announced at Disney D23 that a third installment of the Incredibles franchise was in development, with Brad Bird returning to write and direct.[3]
On June 10, 2025, it was reported that Peter Sohn will replace Brad Bird as director, due to Bird's commitment to the Skydance Animated film Ray Gunn. He is still involved with the screenplay.[4]

This will be the third time that a Pixar franchise has become a trilogy, following Toy Story 3 and Cars 3.
The first film in the Incredibles franchise not to have John Lasseter as an executive producer, or Brad Bird as director.
