"Innocent Until Proven Ghostly" is the first segment of the thirteenth episode of the Disney Channel animated series, The Ghost and Molly McGee.
Synopsis[]
Molly tries to prove Scratch’s innocence when he’s falsely accused of a crime.
Plot[]
Set up like a true crime show, Pete is preparing his famous passionfruit crumb cake for his and Sharon's anniversary. However, when he goes to check on it, it is gone. He immediately suspect Scratch as the culprit due to his gluttonous behavior, with Shannon and Darryl advising he comes clean (as well as stick to his story and not let the others break him), though he swears by Molly McGee that he is completely innocent. Molly decides to hold a trial to find the real culprit and first calls Sharon to the stand. Molly manages to get Sharon to confess that she never liked Pete's crumb cake because he uses carob rather than chocolate, which she hates. She thought of tossing it out, but knew that he made it out of love and could not bring herself to do it.
When Sharon mentions dirty handprints, Molly immediately puts Darryl on the stand and does so willingly, complete with having a lawyer. He admits that he distracted Pete, not to get the cake, but to instead get the glass cover so that he can capture his pet tarantula Heidi Hairylegs. He tried to get Pete to help, but that he "was busy". Molly immediately realizes that Pete was not being truthful and puts him on the stand. Molly revealed the burnt cake in the trash bin and believed that he covered it up the accident by scapegoated Scratch, who suggested that Pete cleans Darryl's gym socks as punishment. Pete explained that he had lost the original recipe (thanks to Sharon), so he had to look for a new one online. The recipe from a Britain website used Celsius which resulted in him burning his cake and his apron. However, he managed to make a new one that shortly afterward was eaten by the unknown glutton.
The family discover ectoplasm on the plate when Darryl ate the crumbs on it, and Scratch is immediately placed back on the accusation spot. Despite Scratch's apparent unawareness of the ectoplasm, Pete pins the ghost with his punishment to clean Darryl's gym socks unless he admits to the crime. He still maintains his innocence, but when even Molly was unsure of it, he was about to take the punishment until Molly learns that carob was still an ingredient. She reveals that Scratch actually has a carob allergy which causes him to inflate and fill the whole house. The family apologize for not believing him before. Afterwards, Scratch thanks Molly for still believing in him, though he still cannot figure out who ate the cake and they both wonder who did. It turned out to be Geoff who thought that it was a birthday cake for him, despite it not being his birthday and the cake clearly saying Sharon on it.
