The Invisible Goldfish is a character who was featured in the 2012 Disney film, Frankenweenie.

Background[]

This fish was once a dead goldfish which Edgar obtained from the pet store and blackmailed Victor Frankenstein into bringing back to life with the same experiment he performed to revive his dog, Sparky. The lightning struck the goldfish which the two were expecting would bring the fish back to life, but the result also ended up causing Edgar's fish to become invisible which can only be seen via light such as through flashlight or through lamp where its skeleton is visible. It was also shown that the goldfish appears to have gained carnivore-like characteristics, shown by its sharp teeth and the fact that it apparently dislikes being touched such as the case of Toshiaki and Bob putting their fingers in the water when Edgar showed it to them, only for the fish to bite Bob.

Role in the film[]

When Edgar "E" Gore purchases a dead goldfish from the pet store, he takes it to Victor Frankenstein's makeshift lab at the attic and does the same experiment to Sparky where the lightning strikes the dead fish in a water jar. The result brought the fish back to life, but was turned invisible and can only be seen through light. Curious of why the fish he brought turned invisible, Victor tells Edgar that he should avoid telling anyone about that until he figures out how the electricity process works. Edgar later visits Bob at night with Toshiaki where he shows the two the invisible goldfish and as he passes it to Bob, the invisible fish bites him while Toshiaki uses a lamp to reveal the fish which Edgar plans to keep it a secret just as the fish continues swimming in its jar with its silhouette seen via lamp following its movements.

The next day at school, Nassor confronts Edgar to know if he has the invisible goldfish just as Edgar shows him the jar where the invisible fish is contained which Nassor doesn't feel the fish which Edgar himself reacts in shock. As Edgar tries to ask Victor to know what happened to his fish, Victor returns to the attic to concerned about Sparky, only to see his dog is safe after all.

The fish is last seen in a flashback sequence during the discussion between Victor and Mr. Rzykruski just before the latter leaves while discussing about what science experiment Victor did before.

Trivia[]

  • The invisible goldfish is the only creature that was struck by electricity and then revived through said method that did not take part during the final battle at the Dutch Day festival.
    • The fish was to appear in a deleted scene but this was removed.
  • It was never revealed what happened to the fish after it disappeared.
