The Jack-In-The-Box is the second boss from Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse, being found in World 2 (named Toyland in the Playstation remake).
Description[]
The Jack-In-The-Box, hence the name, resembles real Jack-in-the-boxes. He has springs for limbs and the head of a clown, and wears a blue hat and blue boxing gloves and brown shoes, and his jack-in-the-box shell is a white square box with red ribbons around it and shapes on the white part.
Appearances[]
Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse[]
When Mickey Mouse enters the arena after his trek through the second stage of the game, the Jack-In-The-Box assembles his body piece by piece, with his legs dropping down in the middle of the arena, followed by his shell, with his arms attaching themselves to the sides and his head falling into place at the top.
The Jack-In-The-Box's attack pattern consists of him bouncing around the level before stopping to punch Mickey, who must duck the punching arm. Afterwards, four springs will be released, which Mickey must use to jump high and stomp the Jack-In-The-Box from above. After he takes ten hits, the Jack-In-The-Box is defeated.
In the Playstation remake, some of the springs that the Jack-In-The-Box releases after his punching attack cannot be used as those land on their sides, although at least one will still be usable to attack him. His moveset is also expanded, now having stretching spinning punches and a spinning charge around the arena, which is now traversed in 3D. He also has only five hit points at maximum. Upon defeat, the boss falls flat rather than vanishing or exploding.
According to his statue description, the Jack-In-The-Box used to be a court jester, but currently spends his days playing with toys and getting up to mischief, surprising adventures who enter Toyland.
