Jake Joseph Paul is an American social media personality, actor, musician, rapper, and professional boxer, who, for Disney, played Dirk Mann in seasons 1-2 of the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark and guest-starred in the Walk the Prank special "Talk the Prank with Jake and Logan Paul".

Paul was born in Cleveland, Ohio. He began his career in September 2013, posting videos on the now-defunct video application Vine. After gaining fame on Vine and YouTube, Paul was hired onto the set of Bizaardvark, playing the role of Dirk Mann, a character who accepted dare requests that he would then perform. His older brother, Logan Paul, is also a YouTuber and actor and both appeared on Bizaardvark and Walk the Prank.

On July 22, 2017, during the middle of filming the second season of Bizaardvark, Disney Channel announced that Jake Paul would be leaving the series. The announcement followed a news report from KTLA about public complaints from his neighbors in Los Angeles regarding the noise generated by Paul's pranks, parties, fire hazards, and the large crowds of Paul's fans congregating in their neighborhood.[1][2] As a result of Paul's departure, Dirk was written out of the series and replaced by Zane and Rodney (played by Maxwell Simkins and Elie Samouhi, respectively) in the show's third and final season.

Trivia[]

  • Jake Paul was the first social media star to be a main cast member of a Disney Channel show.
  • Although Paul left Bizaardvark and Disney Channel in July 2017, his character Dirk still appeared in episodes of the show until March 2018, as the remaining episodes with Dirk were filmed before Paul was fired from the series. Dirk's final appearance on Bizaardvark was in the episode "Bernie Moves Out", which aired on March 9, 2018, and Jake Paul left after production wrapped on the episode "The BFF (Before Frankie Friend)".
  • Ironically, Jake Paul's older brother, Logan would also be fired from a show he starred in. Following the controversy surrounding his YouTube video of him at the Aokigahara forest during his trip to Japan in December 2017, Logan was fired from the fourth and final season of the YouTube series Foursome on January 10, 2018, with his role as Alec Fixler being written out without a replacement actor. Additionally, the Bizaardvark episode "The First Law of Dirk", which Logan guest starred in, was pulled from reruns on Disney Channel due to said reason.
  • Jake Paul, along with his equally controversial brother Logan, served as the inspiration for the character Itchaboi in Big City Greens with series creator Chris Houghton calling them "modern day snake-oil salesmen".[3]
