James Francis Gunn, Jr. is an American director, producer, screenwriter, actor, author, and musician, who is best known for directing the 2014 science-fiction superhero film Guardians of the Galaxy and its sequels 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, 2022's The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and 2023's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He was also an executive producer on I Am Groot. In addition, he wrote the screenplay for other films, such as the 2002 live-action adaptation of Scooby-Doo, the 2006 comedy-horror Slither (which was also his directorial debut), and the 2017 Battle Royale-esque film The Belko Experiment.
He is the older brother of Sean Gunn.
