James Mason was a British actor who was known for a number of famous movies, including Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest and Stanley Kubrick's Lolita.

He was also known for starring as Captain Nemo in the Disney film, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Mason was once considered for the role of George Banks in Mary Poppins along with George Sanders, Terry-Thomas, Richard Harris, Patrick McGoohan, David Niven, Sebastian Cabot, Peter Finch, Christopher Plummer, John Mills, Danny Kaye, Trevor Howard, Fred Astaire, Donald Pleasence, Geoffrey Keen, Albert Finney, John Mills, Peter Ustinov, Ray Milland, Leo McKern, Peter Barkworth and Donald Sutherland.
Mason was also considered for the role of Barnaby in Babes in Toyland along with several actors before Ray Bolger was chosen.
