Janette "Janet" Lansburgh (nee Martin) was an American screenwriter, director, and publicist, who worked for Disney from the 1930s to the 1960s.
Born in 1911, Janet lived in Ontario, a suburb in San Bernardino, with her parents John William Martin and Leota La Clair and sister Blanche and Lorin. In the late 1930s, she gained a job as Disney's publicity manager and worked very closely on the productions of Pinocchio and Fantasia with their promotion. He married aspiring director Larry Lansburgh in February 1940 in Yuma, Arizona. The following year, she and her husband were selected as part of Walt Disney's "El Grupo", a goodwill tour through South America where inspiration was gathered for the features Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros.
By the 1950, Janet switched from publicist to screenwriter and collaborated with her husband on live-action featurettes that documented animals in their relationship with humans. They would work on similar productions with Warner Bros. on the features Beauty and the Bull and Desert Killer. Their 1957 short film The Wetback Hound won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short Film at the Academy Awards in 1958. The couple divorced in 1966.
Janet passed away in 1973 in Los Angeles. Her son Brian and granddaughter Janet, would share memories of his time at Disney in Walt & El Grupo.
