We're not defined by what we lose. We're defined by what we survive. And you survived a lot.
―Jecki to Osha Aniseya[src]

Jecki Lon is one of the main characters in the live-action Star Wars Disney+ series The Acolyte. She is a female Theelin-human hybrid and a Jedi apprentice during the High Republic era who finds herself involved in a plot against the Jedi.

Background[]

150 years before the Battle of Yavin, Jecki was born Force-sensitive to Theelin and human parents and was taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant shortly after. She subsequently became the Padawan of Jedi Master Sol, succeeding Osha Aniseya who had left the Jedi Order of her own free will.

Personality[]

Pragmatic, calm, disciplined and mature, Jecki fervently follows the Jedi Code, restraining most of her personal feelings or strong emotions. Her way of expressing herself combines politeness and lucidity, often going straight to the point. Beneath her somewhat rigid exterior, she is compassionate and capable of a little teasing humor. Although disciplined in the ways of the Jedi, Jecki tends to be very curious but is not specifically indiscreet, most of the time asking to express herself openly before revealing her thoughts to her Master. On the ground, she is analytical but also excels in improvisation. On Olega, she shows herself to be a patient and diplomatic interrogator, managing to obtain the cooperation of a little boy employed by Mae.

She does not mind receiving advice from others when she is unable to accomplish something on her own, such as Osha helping her with a command sequence when she was struggling to grasp it. Right after, Jecki thanked Osha and the two exchanged in a friendly and somewhat playful manner but Jecki quickly returned to her stoic attitude when Sol showed up, implying that she doesn't want her fellow Jedi to see her more detached side that she rarely displays. Despite their short time together, Jecki and Osha became close friends, each caring about the other. Jecki tends to help Osha with her inner problems, always offering her some wisdom, acceptance and compassion.

Physical Appearance[]

Due to her hybrid origin, Jecki possesses both Theelin and human characteristics, although Theelins have some basic human similarities. She has blonde, shoulder-length hair reaching down to her neck and accompanied by a padawan braid. Through her Theelin blood, Jecki's skin is white with spotted red markings on the temples of her face and a yellowish color covering the top of her skull. On each side of her head she has three small horns. Jecki has brown eyes but no eyebrows.

Appearances[]

The Acolyte[]

In "Lost / Found", Jecki is first seen coming to inform Sol that Vernestra Rwoh requires his presence at the detention level. She can't help but question her master about why he keeps holograms of his former apprentice Osha, the young girl only seeing this as a cause for sentimentality and nostalgia. Sol states that memories are lessons from the past, recalling "If we don't meditate on the past..." and Jecki concludes "We're doomed to repeat it," making Sol happy that she remembers.

She is later assigned the mission to find Osha, suspected of the murder of Jedi Master Indara, on the snowy world of Carlac with Sol, much to her delight but is surprised that Yord Fandar comes with them. The two comically cross paths aboard Polan-717, a shirtless Yord ironing his coat and Jecki cynically telling him to get dressed. In hyperspace, Jecki starts asking Sol again if she can speak up openly, to which he replies that she doesn't need to ask every time before Jecki starts questioning him about his relationship spent with Osha. Through the story Sol tells her, Jecki is surprised to hear that Osha had a twin sister, Mae, who died in the fire that decimated Osha's family.

Once arriving on Carlac, the trio explores the wreckage of the prison transport where Osha was, Yord skeptical about the survival of such a catastrophic landing, while Jecki senses that there was someone there, just before Sol doesn't feel anything further. The Jedi then explore caves and eventually find Osha on the edge of a cliff. The young woman frantically proclaims her innocence before accidentally falling into the void and being saved by Sol. Jecki is ready to handcuff Osha but Sol states that there is no need to as Osha comes with them willingly, while a still-living Mae becomes the real suspect in Indara's murder.

In "Revenge / Justice", Jecki is unable to restart the ship from the engine room console until Osha advises her to repolarize the power couplers. She thanks her and assumes she is a pilot, to which Osha replies that she is a meknek, which Jecki finds dangerous and believed only R2 droids did such work. Osha describes herself as more fun and flexible than a droid, fun Jecki. Following an intrusion into Olega's Jedi Temple by a woman matching Mae, the group is sent to the field by Vernestra to investigate.

On Olega, they meet the local Jedi who have arrested a young boy involved in the break-in, Jecki obediently questions him and he claims to have been paid to distract the security droid by a woman identical to Osha. The group then goes to meet Jedi Master Torbin, one of the four Jedi along with Indara and Sol involved in Mae and Osha's past, only to find him dead and Osha having slipped away earlier above his body. While Yord confirms that Osha had nothing to do with it, a vial of Bunta poison is found and Jecki is the first to deduce that Torbin voluntarily drank the poison as there are no traces of struggle on his corpse.

From a balcony, the group monitors the only apothecary shop in the city likely to have supplied the poison, whose current manager, Qimir, is not recognized by the Local Jedi and is therefore a possible accomplice of Mae. Yord steps forward to confront the man but Jecki comes up with a more beneficial plan: Osha posing as Mae in order to obtain Qimir's confession via hidden recording, also giving them a lead to Mae. Sol considers his padawan's plan to be very good. With Jecki's strategy in motion, Qimir quickly incriminates himself but Sol insists that they listen more, eventually learning that Mae is working for a mysterious master. As soon as Osha's cover is blown, the Jedi surround Qimir inside the shop, with Jecki confronting him with his confession. With his back against the wall, Qimir reveals that Mae will return this evening.

That evening, Jecki remains on Polan-717 awaiting instruction while Yord watches the streets, the latter declaring his bad feelings, just for Jecki to remind him that they must not intervene since Sol wants to confront Mae all alone. Once Mae is spotted, Jecki joins the scene with the ship, arriving just as Sol and Yord corner Mae. With the ship's spotlights trained on the assassin, Jecki orders her to surrender, only for Mae to escape by creating a sandstorm with the Force.

In "Day", Returning to Coruscant, Jecki takes part in lightsaber training. Osha comes to see her after the session, to say goodbye now that her innocence has been proven, for which she thanks Jecki for having contributed to it, as well as for the discovery of Mae. Jecki assumes that Osha is worried about Mae because of their long years of separation, although Osha mostly thinks that only the Jedi can stop Mae from harm. She nevertheless promises Jecki to see her again if she returns to Coruscant, to share a dinner and talk about Sol.

Jecki is later sent to Khofar with other Jedi such as Sol, Yord and an Osha convinced by Sol to accompany them, to find the Jedi Wookie Kelnacca before it is Mae who finds him first. Informed by the locals, the group enters the forest where Kelnacca was last seen, guided by a tracking creature named Bazil. Along the way, they briefly come across a giant insect awakened by Osha and killed by Sol. Osha later speaks of her feeling of having led the creature to its doom, to which Jecki replies that it is always special to see a being return to the Force but thinks that Osha has had too much experience with death compared to her to feel the same way. She comforts Osha when she admits to resenting Mae at the same time as missing her, the Theelin telling her that we are defined by what we overcome to survive, adding that Osha has overcome a lot.

After a stray Bazil stumbles upon Mae, the group follows his screams until coming across Kelnacca's lair with Mae hiding inside. Suddenly, the Jedi see a mysterious individual in black armor appear who approaches Osha, terrified by his presence. The individual pulls out a red lightsaber and telekinetically pushes Osha out of the way as the Jedi draw their weapons and charge, only to be all knocked back by a powerful Force Push.

In "Night", Jecki regains consciousness in time to confront Mae as she attempted to flee, subsequently confronting her in a fight without a lightsaber. Jecki holds on and manages to partially handcuff Mae but the assassin redoubles his fury against young Theelin, using a knife against her. It's only when Mae comes close to slitting her throat that Jecki is able to subdue and fully handcuff her. As soon as she takes Kelnacca's lightsaber, Jecki is attacked by the mysterious assailant who is none other than Mae's master. The fight doesn't turn in Jecki's favor until she uses the second lightsaber to regain some of the upper hand. The Master cuts the second lightsaber, leaving Jecki in shock as she notices he is gone. She joins Sol in a final confrontation with The Master and in one more effort, she manages to break the metal mask of the practitioner of the dark side. Jecki's final assault ends horribly, with The Master revealing another lightsaber with which he spears Jecki's chest three times. Jecki only has time to see the enemy's face before succumbing to her wounds.

Trivia[]

  • For the role, Dafne Keen had to shave her eyebrows. According to her, performing without her eyebrows was harsh because she did not look like she was acting due to the almost unemotional facial look it gave her.
  • At the start of the series, Jecki is around eighteen years old.
  • Jecki is the second hybrid individual known to be Force-sensitive, the first being Jacen Syndulla.
  • Leslye Headland, the creator of The Acolyte, made Jecki a Theelin Jedi due to having really liked Rystáll Sant's character who appeared in the 1997 Special Edition re-release of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. Ironically, Rystáll is also a Theelin-human hybrid.
  • Even though Yord is a rank above her, Jecki does not consider him her superior.
